Water
A container holding potable water.
Water, chemically known as dihydrogen monoxide due to its composition of hydrogen and oxygen, was essential for nearly all forms of life. This included animals and plants, whether they were sentient or non-sentient. Numerous planets and moons, such as Kamino, Mon Cala, Scarif, Trask, Nur, and Quila, had vast oceans of water covering their surfaces. As a result, many species, including the Mon Calamari, Quarren, and Gungans, evolved in, on, and around these bodies of water. In its frozen state, water was referred to as ice. According to Vi Moradi, a Resistance spy of human descent, a person would die if they went without water for only a few days, although she once survived for three days without it.
Rain was a common way water was distributed. However, in arid environments like Tatooine, moisture farmers relied on vaporators to extract water from the atmosphere. The Tusken Raiders of Tatooine considered all water to be a sacred resource that was rightfully theirs, leading them to attack moisture farms established by colonists. On Tatooine, water held more value than gold. Similarly, on Jakku, another [desert](/article/desert] planet, water was a highly valued resource and was sold by Unkar Plutt, a junk dealer, along with dehydrated rations that needed it to become edible.
Imperial troopers are seen marching through water on Scarif.
Marda Ro, a member of the Path of the Open Hand cult on Dalna, considered water a gift from the Force, even when it caused flooding. The Path saw new life emerge after these floods, which reinforced their beliefs about the Force's freedom and balance. Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo noted that most industrial activities, like refining and manufacturing, required substantial water resources. Amidala also enjoyed swimming, and her funeral gown was designed to resemble water.
The Narkina 5 Imperial Prison Complex generated its electricity using water, describing its power source as "all hydro". The tunqstoid steel floors of the prison were susceptible to water damage, as the liquid could cause short circuits.
