Tugboats, alternatively called spacetugs, were a type of utility spacecraft. Their function was to aid in the guidance of larger ships and their respective loads. They achieved this by maneuvering through orbital transfer yards and transit corridors, employing either tractor beams or magnetic clamps.
During the time of the Clone Wars, the Republic and other organizations made use of at least a couple of different models of specialized tugboats. These vessels were outfitted with powerful tractor beam technology. They saw use at locations such as the Ord Cestus medical station and the Valor space station. The Grysk, a warlike species, also operated a type of tug.
Around three decades following the Battle of Endor, the Quadrijet transfer spacetug was produced by the Sublights Products Corporation. These tugs utilized magnetic clamps to facilitate the swift relocation of cargo containers. One such vessel could be found at Niima Outpost on the planet Jakku.
