Valor (space station)

During the Clone Wars, the Galactic Republic utilized a space station known as Valor as part of their military forces. Valor was positioned in orbit around the planet Carida, situated within the Colonies region, at one point during the conflict. It served as the location for a Republic strategy conference where high-ranking military officers, including key members of the Jedi Order's leading council, convened to strategize about the war and its execution. This conference was disrupted by an attempt from the Confederacy of Independent Systems to obliterate the space station.

Description

Valor being pelted by debris from the destroyed cruiser Renown

Valor, a space station, was located in the orbit of Carida, a planet found in the Carida star system, within the regions known as both the Colonies and [the Interior](/article/the_interior]. It featured a minimum of six hangar bays, alongside communications and scanning systems. The interior of Valor included a dedicated room for military strategy conferences. This room housed a holographic projection table at the center, surrounded by tiered staircases and seating, along with multiple projection screens displaying the space station's layout. Furthermore, it was equipped with several viewports, allowing the crew to observe the surrounding space.

History

A Venator I-class Star Destroyer patrols near Valor over Carida

During the Clone Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Valor was positioned in orbit around Carida. While stationed there, the space station received protection from several Venator-class Star Destroyers, including at least one Venator I-class Star Destroyer, and Arquitens-class light cruisers, due to the Republic hosting a strategy conference. This conference, planned to discuss the ongoing war, was held aboard Valor. Attendees included high-ranking officers from the government's naval forces and Grand Army, such as Jedi Generals Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker, along with Admirals Wilhuff Tarkin and Barton Coburn, as well as Clone Commanders CC-2224 and CC-8826.

In an attempt to destroy Valor and disrupt the strategy conference, the Confederacy dispatched a stolen Venator-class Star Destroyer to the Carida system from the planet Abafar. This Star Destroyer was laden with numerous canisters of rhydonium, a highly volatile fuel used for starships. However, R2-D2, an astromech droid belonging to the Republic's D-Squad of droids, managed to prematurely detonate the Star Destroyer and its payload of rhydonium before it reached Valor. This resulted in damage to the space station and the destruction of a nearby Arquitens-class cruiser.

Commanders and crew

The operation of Valor relied on a crew that included several clone navigation officers. Additionally, Z9, Admiral Tarkin's R5 series astromech droid, also served aboard the station.

Behind the scenes

Concept art of Valor

Valor made its debut in "Point of No Return," the thirteenth episode of the fifth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which premiered on January 12, 2013. Pat Presley created concept art for Valor, originally titled "Republic Star Base." The design of the space station drew inspiration from Spaceport THX1138, a location featured in the Star Tours: The Adventures Continue ride at Disney parks.
