Carida

Within the Colonies region of the galaxy, the Carida system contained a mountainous planet known as Carida. The Galactic Empire's era saw Carida hosting both an Imperial academy and an naval docking facility, while during the Clone Wars, the space station Valor was in orbit around it.

Description

Carida's barren landscape filled with mountains.

Located in the Colonies region of the galaxy and part of the Carida system, Carida was a planet. Its surface, largely barren and filled with mountains, was illuminated by two suns. The atmosphere was suitable for breathing by oxygen-breathing species like humans, and the planet had a significant human population. Small settlements dotted the rugged, mountainous terrain.

History

Age of the Republic

Prior to the Clone Wars, Carida voiced its support for the Military Creation Act. Later, the Carida Academy became the site of a protest against the growing militarization of the Galactic Republic, during which Cassian Jeron Andor's father met his death.

During the Clone Wars, strategists from the Galactic Republic convened a conference on the space station Valor, which was in orbit around Carida. The droid task force D-Squad, led by Colonel Meebur Gascon, played a crucial role in preventing Valor's destruction. The Confederacy of Independent Systems had intended to use an unmanned cruiser filled with rhydonium as a disguised bomb.

Imperial Era

The [Carida Academy](/article/carida_academy] continued to operate on the planet throughout the reign of the Galactic Empire. Tabor Seitaron, a former naval officer of the Republic, was among the academy's staff. The academy gained notoriety for producing exceptional officers, such as Kendal Ozzel, Tian Karmiya, and Canonhaus. In addition, Ryleel Imperial Base was situated on Carida.

In 14 BBY, a rebel attack targeted the academy. Berch Teller's rebel cell, with the covert assistance of Imperial Vice Admiral Dodd Rancit, planned to strike the facility after stealing Moff Wilhuff Tarkin's personal corvette, the Carrion Spike. Rancit, intending to betray the rebels and gain favor with his Imperial superiors, assembled a fleet above Carida, awaiting the Spike's arrival. However, suspecting Rancit's deception, the cell dispatched the corvette to Carida on autopilot and escaped. Upon arriving in Carida space, Darth Vader, the Sith Lord, boarded Rancit's Secutor-class Star Destroyer Conquest and revealed that Rancit's plot had been discovered. Vader then ordered Rancit to be ejected in an escape pod and subsequently destroyed.

Shortly before the Battle of Hoth, Captain Tabor Seitaron from the Carida Academy was recalled to active duty by Prelate Verge aboard his Imperial-class Star Destroyer Herald, in an attempt to capture the Imperial defector Everi Chalis.

Behind the scenes

Carida's initial appearance in Star Wars canon was in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "Point of No Return." It's worth noting that the subtitles on the Blu-ray release of the show's fifth season misspell the planet's name as "Corrida."
