Plot summary
In 3999 BBY, Jedi apprentice Andur Sunrider, accompanied by his wife Nomi, their daughter Vima, and their droid A-3DO, departs from their home world of H'ratth. Their destination is Ambria in the Stenness system, where they seek out the secluded Jedi Master Thon. Andur, sent by his former Master Chamma to learn from Thon, carries rare Adegan crystals as a gift. En route to the Stenness Node, the Sunriders pause at a hyperspace terminal for supplies. Bogga the Hutt, a notorious crime lord, discovers Andur's possession of the crystals. Desiring them for himself, Bogga orders his gang of thugs to attack Andur. They succeed in killing Andur but fail to retrieve the crystals. Andur then appears as a Force ghost to Nomi, urging her to defend herself and their daughter with his lightsaber. Realizing her Force sensitivity, Nomi kills two attackers and drives the rest away. She then gathers Vima, A-3DO, and the crystals, and continues to Ambria.
Upon arriving on Ambria, Nomi instructs A-3DO to remain with their ship, the Lightside Explorer. Taking Vima, Nomi follows her instincts to find Jedi Master Thon. After traversing the harsh deserts, they encounter a being riding a fierce creature. Recognizing him as a Jedi, Nomi follows him to his farm. Meanwhile, Bogga's gangsters track Nomi to Ambria and find A-3DO in the Lightside Explorer. Believing the crystals are inside, they shoot A-3DO, unaware Nomi has them. Following Nomi's trail to the farm, Bogga's men confront Nomi's host. The Jedi is overwhelmed, but the beast intervenes, trampling several pirates and forcing the rest to retreat. The being is revealed to be Jedi Knight Oss Wilum, and the beast is Master Thon.
Under Thon's guidance, Nomi begins her Jedi training alongside Oss Wilum. While training progresses, pirate Finhead Stonebone hijacks a ship belonging to Bogga the Hutt, intending to steal valuable ore. However, Bogga, aboard his flagship Enforcer One, captures Stonebone and his pirate gang. Instead of executing Stonebone, Bogga sends him and his gang to Ambria to kill Master Thon and retrieve the Adegan crystals. Stonebone leads an attack on Thon's homestead, capturing Thon because Nomi hesitates to use violence. However, realizing Thon won't fight back to show her the Jedi path, Nomi uses her Force abilities to attack Stonebone and his gang. With the combined efforts of Nomi and Thon, the pirates are driven from Ambria.
