On the world of Kiffex, Cade Skywalker encounters significant difficulties. He comes close to murdering his cousin, a Guardian, but Jariah Syn, a friend of Cade's, steps in to stop him. Cade goes into hiding with his uncle, who informs him that Azlyn Rae remains alive, although she is contained within a special suit. Azlyn expresses her anger to Cade, stating her desire for death, and Cade's family grants him a period until his ship, the Mynock, is fixed, at which point he must depart.
