The Stark Hyperspace War represented a skirmish along the borders during the Great Peace period of the Galactic Republic. This boundary disagreement transpired at some point in time between the conclusion of the Jedi-Sith War in 1032 BBY and the commencement of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY. The Republic and the Jedi Order battled against a group of pirates in this war, which served as one of the multiple localized disputes that required the attention of the Republic and the Jedi throughout the Great Peace. The government depended on volunteer soldiers and vessels along with Jedi Knights to resolve these issues, given the Republic's absence of a permanent army and navy. A veteran of the Stark Hyperspace War was Jedi Master Saesee Tiin.

The canon Star Wars first referenced the Stark Hyperspace War in the 2013 mobile app known as Star Wars: Force Collection. The war was presented in the Star Wars Legends narrative in the 1999 Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace Scrapbook by Ryder Windham, who described the conflict as the "Hyperspace Wars," where Jedi Masters Plo Koon and Qui-Gon Jinn were participants. The "Stark Hyperspace Conflict" was mentioned in the novel Cloak of Deception, authored by James Luceno and released on May 29, 2001; however, it was not explicitly linked to the Hyperspace Wars.
The Stark Hyperspace War initially surfaced in flashbacks as the subject of a four-part story arc within the 1998 Star Wars comic-book series published by Dark Horse Comics. The initial issue of the arc was Star Wars 36, written by John Ostrander, with illustrations by Davidé Fabbri, and it was released on November 28, 2001. According to the comics, the Republic and Jedi fought against the Stark Commercial Combine pirate organization during the war. Jinn and Koon were both depicted as fighters in the series, which verified that the conflict was the same as the Hyperspace Wars.
