Sutta

The Sutta, a Xyston-class Star Destroyer belonging to the Final Order's fleet of the Sith Eternal, was under the command of Captain Strok in 35 ABY. On the Sith planet Exegol, the Sutta and the other vessels in the fleet were activated by the direct order of Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious. Following the Derriphan's brief departure from Exegol and its destruction of the planet Kijimi, the Resistance, spearheaded by Generals Poe Dameron and Finn, initiated an attack against the Sith fleet and the First Order flagship Steadfast.

Similar to other vessels within the fleet, the Sutta engaged Resistance forces, until the arrival of the Citizens' Fleet bolstered the Resistance, leading to the defeat of the Sith Eternal forces. The Sutta became the primary target as the first Star Destroyer and, after its axial superlaser was destroyed, succumbed to a series of explosions that completely annihilated it.

Description

The Sutta's main armament is targeted by the Resistance.

The Sutta was a Xyston-class Star Destroyer produced by Kuat-Entralla Drive Yards. As a member of the Xyston-class, the Sutta stretched 2,406 meters in length and stood 682 meters tall. It drew inspiration from an enlarged version of the Galactic Empire's older Imperial I-class Star Destroyers, evident in the presence of two deflector shield generator domes atop the ship's conning tower, housing the bridge.

Equipped with an axial superlaser capable of planetary destruction via orbital bombardment, the Sutta drew power directly from its ventral solar ionization reactor. Furthermore, it incorporated launch bays adjacent to the superlaser, along with seven ion engines and a hyperdrive. Consistent with other Sith Star Destroyers, the Sutta displayed the red markings of the Sith Eternal cult emblazoned on its hull.

History

The Sutta was one of over a thousand Sith Star Destroyers on Exegol.

The Sutta, alongside the other Star Destroyers in the Final Order fleet of the Sith Eternal, was secretly constructed by Kuat-Entralla Drive Yards within the shipyard forges of the Forbidden District located beneath the surface of the Sith planet Exegol. It was eventually placed under the command of Captain Strok. The Sutta, and other Sith Star Destroyers of the Final Order, were under the direct control of the leader of the Sith Eternal, the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious. In 35 ABY, following the arrival of Kylo Ren, the Supreme Leader of the First Order, at the Sith Citadel on Exegol and his meeting with the Dark Lord, the entire armada of 1,080 Sith Star Destroyers burst forth from the planet's surface, ready to depart Exegol and seize control of the galaxy. The Derriphan, a ship of the armada, was briefly dispatched to the wider galaxy, where it destroyed the planet Kijimi before returning to Exegol. Subsequently, Rey, Sidious's granddaughter, journeyed to Exegol to confront the Sith Lord. The Resistance, engaged in a war against the First Order, followed Rey to the Sith world and, under the joint leadership of Generals Poe Dameron and Finn, launched an assault on the Sith fleet, marking the beginning of the Battle of Exegol.

Initially intending to destroy the navigation tower on Exegol's surface to prevent the Final Order fleet's launch, the Resistance starfighters encountered a barrage of laser fire from the Sith Star Destroyers before facing TIE/dg starfighters. Once the tower was disabled and the signal was rerouted to the First Order flagship, the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Steadfast, the Resistance fighters found themselves overwhelmed by the Sith Eternal forces. Resistance soldiers aboard the Steadfast's hull attempted to disrupt the signal, achieving temporary success. As Resistance forces dwindled, General Lando Calrissian arrived aboard the light freighter Millennium Falcon, leading the Citizens' Fleet, a massive allied fleet of 14,000 ships from across the galaxy. With these new reinforcements, Dameron instructed everyone to target the Star Destroyers' superlasers.

The Sutta is completely destroyed.

As a result, the Sutta became the initial Sith Star Destroyer targeted by the Resistance and allied forces. The Falcon, RZ-2 A-wing interceptors, T-70 X-wing starfighters, and a B-Wing Fighter concentrated their fire on the Sutta's ventral axial superlaser, triggering a chain reaction of explosions extending from the cannon to the reactor. Following the reactor's detonation, further explosions ripped through the midship and engulfed the command structure forward of the tower. Additional explosions ensued, and the Sutta was completely consumed by the destruction. After the loss of the Sutta, a crew member on the Steadfast's bridge announced the loss of a Destroyer. The other Sith Star Destroyers eventually met the same fate as the Sutta, with the Resistance and its allies emerging victorious from the battle, which saw the total annihilation of the Sith forces and Darth Sidious.

Commanders and crew

Like the other Sith Star Destroyers of the Final Order, the Sutta operated under the overall command of Allegiant General Enric Pryde under the direction of Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, with Captain Strok serving as the commanding officer of the ship while at Exegol.

Behind the scenes

The Sutta made its debut in Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the concluding film of the Star Wars saga, released in 2019. Its name was revealed in Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy, a reference book from 2021. In the functional Sith language created by Ben Grossblatt for the Star Wars Legends book Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side, the word sutta translates to "spear."
