The Techno Union possessed a substantial military force composed of battle droids. This organization also manufactured droids; however, two years before Yoda's rescue, a group of Chagrian smugglers stole a shipment of their battle droids. Although the Jedi Order successfully recovered these droids, including several B1-series battle droids, the Union was informed that the Galactic Republic now owned the units after they requested the Jedi Council return them. These droids were subsequently utilized in a simulated abduction of Grand Master Yoda, designed as a test for Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan Anakin Skywalker. Initially, Kenobi suspected the Union's involvement in the kidnapping, but Skywalker and him eventually discovered it was merely a trial.
Towards the end of the Separatist Crisis, Foreman Wat Tambor declared his allegiance and contributed his droid forces to the Confederacy of Independent Systems, thereby integrating his droid army into the larger Separatist Droid Army.
The existence of the Techno Union's droid army was initially revealed in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. In the Choose Your Destiny: An Obi-Wan & Anakin Adventure book, if the reader opts to travel to Skako Minor, D1-series aerial battle droids attack Skywalker and Kenobi's Eta-class shuttle. Regardless of the reader's subsequent choices, the story leads to an unfavorable conclusion, with several scenarios involving the Union's droid forces, highlighting the need to investigate the Nova Crime Syndicate instead.
