The Droids Re-Animated is a pair of articles serving as reference material, found on the StarWars.com blogs. These articles, penned by Abel G. Peña and Rich Handley, had their genesis around 2003, but were not released until "after a decade of marinating." Part 1 saw publication on June 13, 2013, followed by Part 2 on July 5, 2013.
The articles delve into the chronicles of C-3PO and R2-D2 during the period separating Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. These stories were initially presented in Star Comics' 1986 Star Wars: Droids comic book series, Nelvana's 1985–1986 Star Wars Droids animated show, and Dark Horse Comics' 1994–1997 Star Wars: Droids comic books. They also reference other materials, like C-3PO: Tales of the Golden Droid and The New Essential Guide to Characters.
Through these articles, Peña and Handley contributed new Star Wars Legends content, including previously unknown species, starship, and character names. They also clarified the chronological order of the droids' changes in ownership. Some fresh elements, such as the character Sonko Fromm, originated in a children's book titled simply Droids, published exclusively in Spain by Plaza Joven. Furthermore, Peña and Handley linked certain droid adventures to other Star Wars literary works, such as the 1992 young-adult novel The Glove of Darth Vader. Peña and Handley also elaborated on previously established events. For example, the first part of the blog explicitly identified the Lok Revenants as the pirate group responsible for attacking the Tantive IV within the Maramere system, compelling the Alderaanean corvette to abandon the droids; previously, this pirate group had not been named.
Part 1 definitively places the Star Comics stories before the animated series in the timeline. Initially, Peña and Handley had the order reversed, but they adjusted their stance after Peña consulted with members of the Jedi Council Forums regarding the timeline. This necessitated some significant last-minute revisions. Part 2, which was implied to be the last entry, also validated the canonicity of the MyComyc serials Sabotaged Droid and Troublesome Outing. The articles were taken down in 2022.
