The Thesme sector existed within the Outer Rim Territories. Despite some planets considering secession during the Clone Wars, the sector ultimately maintained allegiance to the Galactic Republic under its Human senator, Silya Shessaun. Under the rule of the Galactic Empire, a new senator was installed, followed by a sector governor. This new official was corrupt, leading to a rise in criminal activity across portions of the sector. Amidst this corruption, members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic were able to utilize some of the Thesme sector's planets to move supplies to their nearby base situated in the Yavin system.
During the time of the Galactic Civil War, this sector became one of the many incorporated into the Bright Jewel Oversector.
Positioned in the Outer Rim Territories, the Thesme sector was situated along the Hydian Way. The Feriae system was a trade center where the Way intersected with two smaller hyperspace routes, known as the Thesme Trace and the Gordian Reach. The sector encompassed the planets Feriae Junction and Thesme.

Thesme served as the industrial heart and the capital of the Thesme sector. During the twilight years of the Galactic Republic, the sector's senatorial representative, Silya Shessaun, hailed from this planet. As a resolute loyalist throughout the Clone Wars, she played a key role in resolving numerous conflicts within her sector, involving planets that contemplated joining the Confederacy of Independent Systems. However, Shessaun was subsequently compelled to resign from her position by the Galactic Empire, who replaced her with a more pro-Imperial senator. This was despite her unwavering support for the Republic, and her friendship with senators in the Delegation of 2000, such as Padmé Amidala, which had cast doubts on her future loyalty to the Empire. Later, as the Empire's internal structure evolved, an Imperial governor was appointed to oversee the sector. However, this governor was known for being corrupt and susceptible to bribes, which fostered an environment where criminal activities flourished in certain areas of the Thesme sector. Slavers were able to exploit several of the sector's more remote planets without significant Imperial intervention. One such group was the Zygerrian Slavers Guild, which maintained connections on Feriae Junction.
Feriae Junction thrived as a trade hub during the Corusca gem rush in the nearby Yavin system. However, when the rush subsided, the planet's prosperity declined, and it became a refuge for individuals of questionable character. During the Galactic Civil War, it served as the primary transit point for supplies destined for the Alliance to Restore the Republic base located on Yavin 4.
The Galactic Empire later incorporated the Thesme sector into the Bright Jewel Oversector, along with hundreds of other sectors in the Mid Rim and the Outer Rim. Grand Moff Nox Vellam was appointed as the governor of this Oversector.
The Thesme sector received its initial mention in The Hunt Within: Valance's Tale by Jason Fry. Nevertheless, the name "Thesme" initially surfaced in Zygerrian Takedown, also authored by Fry, in reference to the Thesme Trace.
