Tilotny existed as one of the ethereal spirits dwelling near the Bedlam Pulsar. She distinguished herself as the first of these beings to experiment with time and space by manifesting a physical form. During the era of the Galactic Civil War, Tilotny, along with three other spirits, encountered Princess Leia Organa. Leia had been compelled to make an emergency landing on the planet Bedlam while evading pursuit by three Imperial stormtroopers. Laboring under the misapprehension that she had originated the concept of physical form, Tilotny asserted her creation of these beings and proceeded to interact with them, resulting in their accidental demise. Losing interest in her newfound playthings, she departed, delegating the cleanup task to her fellow spirit, Splendid Ap. Splendid Ap then revived Organa and the stormtroopers, but inadvertently propelled the latter a staggering 8,000 years into the past.

An omnipotent, transdimensional entity, Tilotny belonged to the group of Bedlam Spirits residing in the void that consumed hyperspace close to the Bedlam Pulsar. Typically existing as abstract beings, Tilotny and her companions began toying with time, matter, and space. At some juncture during the Galactic Civil War, Tilotny pioneered the act of assuming a tangible shape, manifesting on the planet Bedlam in a form resembling a Human female. Although Tilotny was the first of her kind to materialize, it wasn't long before other Bedlam Spirits emulated her, and Tilotny was soon joined on the planet by Horliss-Horliss, Cold Danda Sine and Splendid Ap. Under the impression that she had invented form, Tilotny readily took credit for creating the world around them when queried by Cold Danda Sine, although Horliss-Horliss questioned whether it had already existed before their arrival.
As the group deliberated their new forms and environment, they encountered Princess Leia Organa, a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic who had been forced to land on the planet and was being chased by three Imperial stormtroopers. Tilotny also asserted her creation of Organa, but when the stormtroopers arrived shortly after, she was ridiculed by Cold Danda Sine for replicating a shape. Seeking to rectify her apparent error, Tilotny employed her powers to alter the form of one of the stormtroopers, encasing the trooper in crystal and unintentionally killing him. Horliss-Horliss was unimpressed by Tilotny's lack of finesse and attempted his own modification, killing Organa in a more subtle manner by transforming her heart into diamond while leaving the rest of her unchanged. Tilotny made another attempt to modify the beings, merging the two remaining stormtroopers into a single mass of writhing limbs that quickly perished. Cold Danda Sine soon grew weary of the activity, however, and suggested it was time to depart. Tilotny concurred, but Horliss-Horliss felt that, as Tilotny was the first to take shape, she should tidy up the mess they had made of Organa and the stormtroopers. Tilotny declined, however, and instead instructed Splendid Ap to do so while she left with the others. Splendid Ap resurrected the beings and restored them to their original forms, but unknowingly dispatched the stormtroopers 8,000 years into the past.

Despite her omnipotence, Tilotny possessed a naive understanding of time and space. She exhibited an innocent, light-hearted demeanor and regarded her life-threatening experiments with the beings she encountered as mere games. As the first of her kind to assume a physical form, Tilotny was convinced that she had invented form, mass, and time, and credited herself with creating the world around her and the sentient beings she encountered, refusing to accept that any forms could have existed before her. She took immense pride in her accomplishment and felt that the novelty of form was diminished when her fellow spirits learned to take shapes of their own, accusing them of copying her and disparaging the indistinct shape adopted by Horliss-Horliss. When the others accused her of creating duplicate shapes upon seeing the stormtroopers, Tilotny attributed her apparent error to being distracted by her companions and, feeling ashamed, attempted to correct her mistake, inadvertently causing the deaths of Leia and the troopers. Tilotny, like the other Bedlam Spirits, quickly lost interest in her playthings and decided to leave, even refusing to restore them to their previous state beforehand. In her corporeal form, Tilotny resembled a Human female. Significantly larger than a real Human, she had green features, pale green eyes and long, flowing green hair, and levitated above the planet's surface.
Tilotny was an omnipotent being whose powers enabled her to effortlessly manipulate time and mass. As an abstract entity by nature, she possessed the ability to assume a physical form and was the first of her kind to discover how to do so. In corporeal form, she could levitate above the ground. Tilotny could also alter the forms of those she encountered. However, she did not fully comprehend the extent of her powers or the consequences of her abilities. Assuming that she had created the stormtroopers she encountered, she attempted to modify them, but inadvertently caused their deaths.
Tilotny was conceived by Alan Moore for the comic story Tilotny Throws a Shape, published in the Marvel Comics UK comic book The Empire Strikes Back Monthly 154 in February 1982. Tilotny Throws a Shape was illustrated by John Stokes and originally published in black and white. It was later colored when reprinted by Dark Horse Comics in 1996's Classic Star Wars: Devilworlds 2, giving Tilotny her green appearance. The character was given an entry in 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia and is also mentioned in 2009's The Essential Atlas, which established her as a Bedlam Spirit.
The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia states that Tilotny resided near the Din Pulsar, but this was later corrected to the Bedlam Pulsar in The Essential Atlas. While the original comic depicts Splendid Ap resurrecting Organa and the stormtroopers after Tilotny's refusal, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia erroneously states that Tilotny restored the beings. This error was acknowledged by author Pablo Hidalgo during a ForceCast interview in late 2008.
