Undicur-class jumpspeeder

The Undicur-class jumpspeeder, also known as the Jedi jumpspeeder, was a type of speeder bike that was produced by Kuat Vehicles.

Description

This compact speeder bike, the Undicur-class, was created to be sold alongside starships. It was intended as a utility vehicle, for local transportation, and for search and rescue operations. Its tough frame, combined with its low-power repulsorlift engines, made it simple to manufacture and store on vessels like the Eta-class shuttle. Being collapsible, its basic saddle and control panel were sufficient for brief journeys between a starship and a destination. During the Clone Wars period, the jumpspeeders were frequently utilized by the Grand Army of the Republic as well as members of the Jedi Order.

History

While initially designed as an emergency vehicle for the Jedi Order and local military patrols, the design gained popularity among civilians following the Clone Wars. Several units were used by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, and Padawan Ahsoka Tano during their mission to Mortis. Later, one was used by Sabine Wren four years prior to the Battle of Yavin on the Outer Rim planet of Lothal during a Raid near Jalath.

Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus rode a pair of Undicur-class bikes from Lando Calrissian's farm and witnessed the remnants of a burned Tarkintown.

Sabine loaned her bike to her friend Ketsu Onyo, who ultimately destroyed it due to her recklessness.

Behind the scenes

The jumpspeeder was based on a design by Joe Johnston.

The vehicle concept by Joe Johnston for Return of the Jedi served as the basis for the Undicur-class jumpspeeder. Its initial appearance was in "Ghosts of Mortis," the seventeenth episode of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was broadcast on February 11, 2011.

The reference book Star Wars Rebels: Head to Head from 2014, written by Pablo Hidalgo, was the first to name it the Undicur-class jumpspeeder. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the name was originally used in Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Incredible Vehicles, a 2011 reference book authored by Jason Fry.
