A mining outpost was constructed by a Mining corporation on the sunlit side of the tidally locked second moon orbiting the planet Codia I. Its purpose was to mine for diamonds. This facility included living quarters (barracks) and a medical bay, and its power was supplied by a power core largely composed of solid accelerite.
Sometime in the period spanning from 44 BBY to 32 BBY, a group of thieves launched a robbery attempt targeting a diamond shipment at the outpost. Their plan involved disabling the outpost's energy supply by using a non-incendiary photonic charge to destroy the power core's fuel rod. However, the resulting photonic burst reacted with the accelerite, generating unusual radioactivity that suppressed the entire visible light spectrum in and around the base, resulting in complete darkness. This radiation also caused the Defel miner Rosack Denahst to enter a state of madness, as his species is extremely sensitive to light.
While most of the miners at the outpost managed to escape to the barracks, six of them were killed by the thieves. Subsequently, Denahst killed at least five of the thieves. After the outpost transmitted a distress signal detailing the situation, the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi were dispatched to investigate. They used specially modified macrobinoculars to be able to see in the dark. The Jedi pair encountered a surviving thief along with the outpost supervisor and were able to understand the events that transpired, all while being attacked by the crazed Defel. Eventually, Kenobi and the supervisor repaired the power core, restoring power to the outpost. This action neutralized the radiation, and subsequently restored Denahst's sanity.
This outpost was originally conceived for the second issue of the Star Wars: Obi-Wan comic book series. The story was crafted by Christopher Cantwell, with illustrations by Luke Ross, and it was released on June 29, 2022.
