Unidentified thief (Codia's second moon)

A thief, described as a bearded human male, joined a group of burglars in an attempt to pilfer diamonds from a mining outpost located on Codia's second moon. The power core of the facility was destroyed by the group, resulting in an unusual radiation emission that suppressed the light spectrum within the outpost. This event drove the Defel miner, Rosack Denahst, to madness, leading him to slaughter the majority of the thieves. Subsequently, the bearded thief encountered the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi amidst the darkness, following them until Denahst attacked and killed him.

Biography

The thief provided information to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn.

As a bearded human male, this thief was part of a group of burglars engaged in a planned theft of diamonds from a mining outpost situated on Codia's second moon, sometime between 44 BBY and 32 BBY. The group utilized a non-incendiary photonic charge to destroy the fuel rod of the outpost's power core. Given that the core was composed primarily of solid accelerite, the photonic burst caused an unusual [radiation](/article/radiation] emission, suppressing the entire light spectrum within the outpost. This radiation also drove one of the miners, a Defel named Rosack Denahst, into a state of frenzy. Following the thieves' murder of six miners, Denahst retaliated by slaughtering five of them and fatally wounding another, who perished soon after.

Lost and alone in the darkened outpost, the bearded thief cried out for assistance and was soon discovered by the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Jinn, along with his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, had been dispatched to investigate the incident at the facility. The thief admitted his criminal status and explained the destruction of the core to Jinn. Subsequently, the Jedi led the thief through the darkness to locate Kenobi, who had been engaged in combat with Denahst. After the Defel fled, Jinn and Kenobi discussed the core. When the thief revealed the use of a photonic charge, the Jedi deduced the cause of the darkness and inquired whether Denahst was involved in the heist. The thief denied any knowledge of the Defel's involvement, and the trio proceeded further into the facility, eventually discovering the corpses of the thief's fellow criminals.

The thieves were slaughtered by Rosack Denahst.

While examining the bodies, the group was attacked by the outpost's supervisor, a Gran. Jinn disarmed the supervisor, and the group exchanged information, allowing them to ascertain Denahst's identity. As the supervisor pleaded with the Jedi to kill the Defel, the bearded thief moved away from the group but was attacked and killed by Denahst. In the end, the Jedi and supervisor were able to repair the core and restore Denahst's sanity. Many years later, around 0 BBY, Kenobi reflected on the incident and wrote about the thief in his journals while sheltering in his home on the planet Tatooine during a sandstorm.
