A settlement existed on the planet Lau. This settlement featured a spaceport where Star Commuter 2000 shuttles transported people to the world, and also a cargo port.
Around 18 BBY, the Galactic Empire held dominion over the settlement, with Captain Mann commanding the TK stormtrooper units that patrolled the area. It was during this period that Crosshair and Omega, who were fleeing the Advanced Science Division, made an emergency landing on the planet aboard a Rho-class transport shuttle, subsequently seeking shelter within the settlement.
To gain sufficient funds to bribe a ticketing agent and secure passage through the spaceport, Omega chose to gamble at a cantina. There, she was victorious against a Trandoshan patron while playing balaans. As she was getting ready to depart, Mann intercepted her and requested a rematch. Upon her second victory, Mann compelled her to pay a "fine" for gambling, effectively reclaiming his lost credits. Furthermore, he abducted Omega's pet lurca hound, Batcher, and moved it to the cargo docks, anticipating Omega's arrival to rescue it. When she appeared, Mann revealed his intent to apprehend her and Crosshair, as their fugitive status had come to light. However, Crosshair initiated a battle with the troopers, granting Omega the opportunity to unlock the enclosures of several creatures held at the dock. These creatures then overwhelmed the troopers, allowing the pair to flee.
