The Veila lineage represented a bloodline of Human individuals who were Force-sensitive, and it included Tahiri Veila, a former Jedi. Veila's mother and father also had a strong connection to the Force, being descendants of one of the final members of the original Jedi Order. Eventually, Veila underwent training to become a Knight within the New Jedi Order, and consequently, the Galactic Alliance. Her dedication to the Jedi ended when she joined the Sith Order to serve as the apprentice to Darth Caedus. Veila briefly worked as a bounty hunter after the death of the Dark Lord, before enlisting with the Imperial Remnant.
Tahiri Veila's grandfather, a Human male Jedi from the initial Jedi Order, was the earliest known member of her family, living during the waning years of the Galactic Republic. His bloodline continued through the marriage of Tryst and Cassa Veila, who were moisture farmers. Cassa gave birth to Tahiri, their only child, in 13 ABY, and they raised her on their moisture farm on the Outer Rim planet of Tatooine.
In 15 ABY, both Tryst and Cassa were killed by Tusken Raiders, who were unaware that they had nursed one of their own back to health. Sliven, the Tusken Raider the Veilas had aided, rescued the orphaned Tahiri from the Sand People by adopting her as his daughter. Veila remained with the Sand People until 22 ABY, when she was found and recruited into the New Jedi Order. Veila, trained in the Jedi Arts by Master Ikrit, eventually became a Jedi like her grandfather, using the Force to serve the New Republic and its successor, the Galactic Alliance.
Veila ultimately abandoned her Jedi affiliations and her family's legacy to become a Sith. She succumbed to the dark side of the Force, becoming the apprentice of Darth Caedus, the Dark Lord of the Sith and a direct descendant of Darth Vader. She lost her desire to continue as a Sith Lady and surrendered to the Jedi Order not long before the fall of her Sith Master. Veila, no longer a Jedi or Sith, became a freelance bounty hunter before being hired by the Imperial Remnant to serve as the personal bodyguard of Head of State Jagged Fel.
Based on the information presented in Junior Jedi Knights: Anakin's Quest, it remains unclear which of Tahiri's parents is the offspring of the unidentified male Jedi in Tahiri's vision. According to the previous book in the series, Junior Jedi Knights: Promises, both Tryst Veila, who has green eyes, and Cassa Veila, who has blond hair, are Force-sensitive, making them equally probable candidates. Therefore, it is also uncertain whether the surname "Veila" originates from the Jedi's side of the family.
