The ancient Vento system shipyards, alternatively referred to as the Vento shipyards, were shipyards of considerable age. They resided within the Vento system located in the Core Worlds, positioned along the super-hyperroute known as the Perlemian Trade Route. During the Great Sith War, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Sith forces, the Republic utilized these shipyards. The shipyards were subjected to a Sith attack during the initial wave of the Sith's offensive.
During the concluding phases of the war, the Human Sith Lord, Ulic Qel-Droma, attempted to compel a Republic military officer to transmit instructions to the Republic fleet. These instructions would have ordered all starships within the fleet to converge at the Vento system shipyards. Such an action would have resulted in the destruction of numerous Republic vessels. However, Qel-Droma's scheme was thwarted when a contingent of Jedi Knights apprehended the Sith Lord. By the time of later conflicts, including the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War, the Vento shipyards remained operational.
The Vento system shipyards, also called the Vento shipyards, existed in the Vento system, within the Core Worlds. They were situated on the super-hyperroute known as the Perlemian Trade Route.
The Vento system shipyards, considered ancient, were employed by the Galactic Republic for the construction or repair of starships as early as the time of the Great Sith War. This conflict, occurring in 3996 BBY, pitted the Sith against the Republic. During this war, the shipyards were targeted in a Sith attack during the initial offensive.
In 3,996 BBY, when Human Sith Lord Ulic Qel-Droma attacked Coruscant, the Republic capital planet, he entered the city-world's command center and attempted to coerce the commander to send orders to the Republic fleet. These orders would have directed all the fleet's ships to a single point: the Vento system shipyards. The commander predicted that this would cause a collision and the destruction of many vessels. However, the arrival of Jedi Knights prevented Qel-Droma's plan by arresting the Sith Lord.
The Republic continued to utilize the Vento shipyards during the Mandalorian Wars, which took place between 3976 and 3960 BBY against the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders. They also used them during the Jedi Civil War, a war fought from 3959 to 3956 BBY between the Republic and Darth Revan's empire.
The Vento system shipyards were initially mentioned in the second issue of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi comic books series' The Sith War story arc. Kevin J. Anderson wrote the issue, Dario Carrasco, Jr. penciled it, and Dark Horse Comics released it on September 19, 1995. The reference book The Essential Atlas from 2009 placed the shipyards in grid square L-9.
