The vornskr was a canine-like creature known for its ability to hunt utilizing the Force. These beasts were indigenous to the forested planet of Myrkr and primarily preyed upon the native ysalamiri. As a result, the ysalamiri evolved a defensive adaptation: the ability to suppress the Force.
Hailing from the planet of Myrkr, the vornskr was a ferocious, untamed canine species with the peculiar talent of sensing the Force. This unique capability initially served to aid them in hunting ysalamiri. However, an unintended consequence arose: they began to perceive Force-sensitives, including Jedi, as their preferred quarry, fueling their insatiable appetite.
In response to this hunting strategy, the ysalamiri developed the power to generate a "Force bubble." This bubble effectively diminished the ambient Force energy, rendering Force abilities unusable within its confines.
Vornskrs were predominantly nocturnal predators. They employed their whip-like, mildly venomous tails to incapacitate their prey before delivering the final blow with their sharp teeth. While typically quiescent during daylight hours, extreme hunger or other compelling factors could drive them to hunt even under the sun's glare.
Before Jedi Master Mace Windu refined it into Vaapad, the Form VII style of lightsaber combat bore the name Way of the Vornskr.
Tyber Zann made use of these creatures within the ranks of the Zann Consortium. After separating the younger vornskrs from their mothers, the pups underwent training to become proficient hunters, targeting enemy troops who managed to escape imprisonment.
The smuggler Talon Karrde owned two vornskrs, named Sturm and Drang, as both pets and guard animals. He even contemplated selling them as guard animals. He made the discovery that severing their whip-like tails had an effect akin to castration, drastically reducing their hunting aggression. This observation was documented in an article published in the Galactic Zoology Monthly. Furthermore, removing the tail, a frequently used weapon, made them easier to manage. This discovery was a stroke of luck, as Karrde had initially shot off Sturm's tail in self-defense. Despite their generally docile nature, Karrde's vornskrs retained an instinctive animosity towards force users, such as Luke Skywalker.
During the Peace Brigade's attack on Yavin 4 during the Yuuzhan Vong War, Talon Karrde cleverly outmaneuvered the Peace Brigade by leading them directly into the clutches of Kam Solusar and his wife, Tionne. He accomplished this by instructing his two vornskrs to locate the Jedi, allowing the Peace Brigaders to follow their trail. Upon reaching the Jedi, the Peace Brigaders were swiftly eliminated. Throughout this staged Jedi hunt, Talon Karrde successfully convinced the Peace Brigaders that he was the owner of the last two remaining vornskrs. While the Peace Brigaders appeared to believe him, the Yuuzhan Vong received information from the traitorous New Republic Senator Viqi Shesh that the vornskrs originated from Myrkr. Subsequently, the Yuuzhan Vong employed the species as a biological blueprint for the creation of the voxyn.
Vornskrs also served as sentinels within the Dark Force Temple located on Dromund Kaas.
