The Dark Force Temple, a Sith religious site, was erected on Dromund Kaas. This planet was just one of numerous colony worlds belonging to the original Sith Empire, and also the Capital of the Resurgent Sith Empire. The very structure was so saturated with the energies of the dark side of the Force that it evolved into a significant dark side nexus nested within a larger dark side nexus.

Constructed upon a solitary patch of stable earth amidst the numerous swamps of Dromund Kaas, and watched over by statues, the Temple's construction occurred well after the collapse of the Sith Empire following the Great Hyperspace War. Although its initial history is now lost, the Sith rediscovered it during the Light and Darkness War, a conflict where the Sith and the Galactic Republic clashed in the marshlands surrounding the structure.
The Temple remained uninhabited until Darth Millennial, a dissenting Sith apprentice who opposed Darth Bane's Rule of Two, located the site and chose to reinhabit it. Millennial established the Dark Force religion on Dromund Kaas. He and his followers took over the Temple as their headquarters, operating from it for centuries. The clergy of this Order, who were known as the Prophets of the Dark Side, were contacted by Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious sometime after the downfall of the Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire. They were eventually integrated into the Empire as the Secret Order of the Empire.
During the Galactic Empire's rule, Prophets like Lord Cronal engineered terrifying Sithspawn such as Gorc, Pic, and mutated Noghri. The Temple functioned as a basic training facility for many of the Emperor's dark side adherents, including Grand Admiral Nial Declann. It was also the childhood home of Cronal's frequently abused daughter, Sariss. Following the disagreement between the Supreme Prophet Kadann and Darth Sidious, the Prophets abandoned Dromund Kaas and went into hiding on Bosthirda. Despite this, the Temple remained a place of the dark side, and it was within its walls that Kyle Katarn succumbed to the dark side. Mara Jade fought her way through Sithspawned Noghri, dianoga, and Vornskrs to save her Master, narrowly escaping the planet with her life.
In 44 ABY, the Temple was visited once more by Jedi. This time, the visitors included Grand Master Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knights Jaina Solo and Ben Skywalker, and Sith apprentice Vestara Khai. They were searching for the hiding place of members of the Lost Tribe of Sith and Abeloth.
