The Watith were a sentient species that originated from an Unknown Regions star system. They possessed a gravity well projector design, their own unique script, and utilized a type of remotely piloted gunboats. Circa 18 BBY, while serving the Grysk agent called "Jixtus," the Watith Captain named Fsir tried to stop the Chiss heavy cruiser named Springhawk and Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo of the Chiss from getting involved in the Hoxim incident. The Chiss, however, were aware of his scheme, which he lost and Fsir falsely claimed the Vagaari pirate base location. Soon after, Generalirius Nakirre of the Kilji Illumine attempted to obtain several Watith prisoners—including Fsir—from Thrawn on the Unknown Regions planet called Zyzek; the senior captain, however, denied the request.
The species known as the Watith were sentients whose origins lie in a star system within the Unknown Regions. This species had access to a gravity well projector.
The Watith, guided by a collective of leaders, exhibited a limited understanding of the Chiss civilization. They employed their own distinct script and had access to the technology of a gravity well projector.

Around 18 BBY, Captain Fsir of the Watith was employed by the Grysk agent "Jixtus" on the planet called Zyzek in the Unknown Regions to intercept the Chiss heavy cruiser called Springhawk and its commander, Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn," to prevent their involvement in the Hoxim incident. Fsir utilized his Saltbarrel freighter and twenty-three Watith gunboats to set up a trap for the Springhawk in a star system located along the heavy cruiser's planned route. Once the Chiss warship neared, the gravity well projector installed in the Saltbarrel alerted Fsir, who then commanded his subordinates to remotely pilot the gunboats to simulate a pirate raid on his starship in hopes of attracting Thrawn's attention.
The senior captain's flagship emerged from hyperspace soon after, and the captain of the Saltbarrel requested assistance in eliminating his attackers, which the Chiss provided. After Thrawn destroyed the attackers and learned of the Watith's identity and origin, the other claimed the Watith leadership had tasked him and his people with establishing a long-range triad transmitter on a nearby planet, because the only one in the region was operated by the Paataatus species, who refused to share it. Fsir then revealed that they were in proximity to the Vagaari pirate base, which the Watith suggested Thrawn should attack to prevent a follow-up attack. Thrawn agreed, and after studying the gunboats' debris journeyed to the Vagaari base. There, the Watith freighter used more gunboats remotely to assault the Springhawk, however, the Chiss heavy cruiser Grayshrike arrived and deactivated all the Watith vessels. After capturing Fsir, the Chiss senior captain learnt that he had been hired by an unknown alien— who unbeknownst to him was Jixtus.
Soon after, Thrawn discovered a plot orchestrated by agents of Jixtus, the Agbui, to instigate a civil war within the Chiss Ascendancy, and the senior captain traveled to the planet called Hoxim to prevent the plot from succeeding. There, he used the Saltbarrel to destroy a mine on the planet that several Chiss families desired to claim, preventing conflict between the families. Weeks later, Generalirius Nakirre, the leader of the Kilji Illumine nation and an ally of Jixtus, met with Thrawn on the planet called Zyzek in the Unknown Regions, where he attempted to acquire the Watith prisoners from the senior captain. Thrawn refused, which led to a brief confrontation that was ended by the Zyzek System Defense.
The Watith made their debut appearance in the 2021 novel titled Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, authored by Timothy Zahn and serving as the second entry in the Star Wars: Ascendancy Trilogy.
