Zona Luka

Zona Luka, a Jedi Knight of the Vultan species and female gender, played a role in the events of the Great Sith War. Jedi Master Dominus, holding her in high regard as his most beloved student, provided her training in the ways of the Jedi. In the year 3996 BBY, while on the library-world of Ossus, Luka and a group of other Jedi Knights were approached by Exar Kun, a Jedi who asserted he possessed knowledge of the Force that the Jedi Masters had deemed forbidden. Intrigued by this claim, Luka and her companions decided to accompany Kun on a quest to uncover these lost secrets. They journeyed aboard Kun's starship, named Starstorm One, to Yavin 4, a moon corrupted by the dark side. Kun led them to the base of a large temple, where he revealed his true intentions by shattering a Sith holocron. This act unleashed dark-side spirits that took possession of Luka and the other Jedi Knights. Kun, who was actually the Dark Lord of the Sith, then ordered Luka and the now dark-side-aligned Jedi to kill their former Masters. Luka located Dominus at his home and, after a brief lightsaber duel, struck him down. However, as he was dying, Dominus used the Force to kill Luka.

Biography

Meeting Exar Kun

Zona Luka and a group of fellow Jedi speak with Exar Kun on Ossus.

Zona Luka, a Vultan female, came into the world in the years preceding the Great Sith War. Possessing sensitivity to the Force, she was accepted into the Jedi Order to receive training in its ways. Luka became the apprentice of Jedi Master Dominus, who regarded her as his most cherished student. Under his tutelage, Luka eventually achieved the rank of Jedi Knight. In 3996 BBY, while on the Outer Rim world of Ossus, a Jedi Knight named Exar Kun began to preach in the Gardens of T'alla about a new direction for the Jedi. Luka, along with a group of other Jedi, including the Human Cay Qel-Droma, fellow Vultan Oss Wilum, and the Cathar Crado, gathered to hear Kun's message. Kun, secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith, claimed to have discovered profound secrets of the Force and offered to share them with those who would join him. He argued that the established Jedi Masters had failed to control the influence of the dark side. Luka agreed, pointing to the capture and torture of Master Arca Jeth by the Naddist Sith cult on Onderon. Kun supported her statement, claiming he had destroyed the spirit of the former Dark Lord of the Sith Freedon Nadd, succeeding where the Jedi Masters had failed.

When Qel-Droma challenged Kun to substantiate his claims, Kun produced what he identified as a Jedi amulet, which captivated Luka. As the assembled Knights were mesmerized by the amulet, Kun invited them to join him on a quest for the most ancient and powerful Jedi secrets, promising that they could reshape the galaxy by strengthening the Jedi Order against the dark side. After some deliberation, Luka, Crado, Wilum, and the others who had listened to Kun's sermon, except for Qel-Droma, decided to join him and informed Kun of their decision. By the time they met him at the entrance to the Great Jedi Library's Chamber of Antiquities, Kun possessed the robe and staff of the Draethos Jedi Master Odan-Urr. Kun claimed that the ancient Jedi Master had passed away peacefully—in reality, Kun had killed Odan-Urr after a brief struggle—and revealed that Odan-Urr had promoted him to the rank of Master and given him a rare holocron. Luka and the other Jedi believed Kun's claims, even though he had lied about what had transpired.

Fall to the dark side

Zona Luka is exposed to the spirits within the holocron.

Luka and Kun's other followers boarded his starship, Starstorm One, and began their quest to uncover the Force's ancient mysteries. They traveled to the moon of Yavin 4, which Kun promised held many secrets and forgotten knowledge. The Jedi group traversed a marshy area and eventually reached a large temple. Growing impatient, Luka urged Kun to finally prove his claims. Oss Wilum, unnerved by Yavin 4's dark-side presence, attempted to leave the group and return to the ship. However, he was confronted by a large group of Massassi warriors—descendants of the warrior class of the Sith species who had arrived on the moon when Dark Lord Naga Sadow settled there in 5000 BBY. Luka and the other Jedi Knights quickly engaged the Massassi. As the Jedi fought together, Kun commanded the natives to cease their attack. Determined to prove himself to Luka and his other potential followers, Kun produced the holocron he had taken from Odan-Urr. He revealed it to be a Sith holocron, contrary to the Jedi holocron they had believed it to be, and asked for their assistance in purging Yavin 4 of its dark influence.

Kun announced his intention to destroy the device, instructing Luka's group to shield their eyes from the flash caused by the artifact's destruction. However, Kun secretly planned to release the holocron's dark power. As Luka watched, Kun crushed the holocron, releasing the trapped Sith spirits. Shards of the dark holocron embedded themselves in Luka's skin, revealing the past glory of the Sith and imbuing her with their teachings and powers. The fragments then disappeared, and Luka, along with the other Jedi, were now darksiders, possessed by the spirits from the holocron. With Luka and her companions now under the dark side's influence, Kun ordered them back to the ship.

Death

Zona Luka battles her former Master, Dominus.

Kun ordered Luka and the other newly converted dark-side followers to eliminate their former Masters, paving the way for a new order in the galaxy. Luka sought out Dominus, finding him at his home. After a brief exchange, where Luka stated that her attack was not personal, she and Dominus engaged in a short duel with their lightsabers. Luka struck down the aging Master, but Dominus, as he lay dying, used the Force to kill his fallen apprentice. Knights Dace Diath, Qrrrl Toq, and Shoaneb Culu investigated the scene after the battle, questioning Luka's motives for killing her former teacher.

Personality and traits

Zona Luka exhibited curiosity toward the dark side and the Force's forbidden knowledge. She harbored doubts about the teachings of the old Jedi Masters, which Exar Kun exploited to persuade her to join him. Luka was also easily entranced by Kun's Sith amulet, demonstrating her fascination with the Force's mysteries. These factors contributed to her decision to accompany Kun on his quest to uncover the Force's secrets, although she grew impatient when he didn't immediately validate his claims of hidden knowledge. Luka was deeply loyal to her fellow Jedi, as shown by her impulsive charge into battle with the Massassi to help Oss Wilum on Yavin 4. However, her exposure to the spirits within the Dark Holocron transformed her, making her willing to do anything for Kun, even betray the Jedi Order. She began to view the old Jedi hierarchy as an obstacle to the rise of the Sith Empire, something that needed to be eliminated. This transformed Luka carried out her mission to kill her former Master without hesitation, though she assured Dominus that she held no personal animosity towards him.

Powers and abilities

Zona Luka possessed sufficient Force abilities for Master Dominus to consider her his favorite student, and she achieved the rank of Jedi Knight. However, her powers increased further when she was turned to the dark side by the Dark Holocron, according to Exar Kun. Luka was skilled with a lightsaber, defeating Dominus and defending her fellow Jedi against the Massassi, but she could not prevent the dying Dominus from killing her with the Force. Luka possessed at least two lightsabers: a lightsaber with a purple beam on Yavin 4, and a blue one during her duel with Dominus.
