The 3rd Moon was a terrestrial moon located in the Outer Rim Territories that was inhabited by various species. Around 1 ABY, the mercenary Sana Starros played a game of dejarik with a Twi'lek in a crowded room on the moon during which the pair eventually drew blasters on each other. At the same time, the Rebel Alliance general Hera Syndulla reached out to Starros via holocomm.
While two Imperial stormtroopers confronted a Rodian outside the room, an alien took the holocomm to Starros while she was at a standoff with the Twi'lek. The mercenary killed her opponent as well as other individuals in the room before answering the comm. During the ensuing conversation, Syndulla recruited the mercenary to bring the rogue archaeologist Doctor Chelli Aphra to the Alliance. While speaking with the general, Starros also stole a small bag from the Twi'lek's body. She then made her way to the Senex-Juvex sectors, where Aphra was aboard the mobile wreckage-prison Accresker Jail.
The 3rd Moon first appeared in the twentieth issue of the 2016 Star Wars: Doctor Aphra comic series, published by Marvel Comics on May 23, 2018. The moon was identified in the following issue, released on June 27 of the same year. Both issues were written by Si Spurrier and illustrated by Kev Walker.
