Battle droid remotes were training droids designed to simulate battle droids, the main forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. The droids were spherical in shape and shot yellow blaster bolts from its sensor that could be deflected by a lightsaber. The droids also had four extra blasters hidden inside. They could hover high above the ground and move rapidly. They had gray and brown plating and a green sensor.
Battle droid remotes were considered new during or after 21 BBY. At the time, every Jedi trained with the remotes as part of a test. Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano trained with four of these droids in the dojo of the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant under the tutelage of Jedi Master Tera Sinube. Tano used her lightsaber to deflect blasts from the droids until the exercise ended and they hovered upwards. As Sinube summoned a force field to surround Tano, the droids hovered around Tano and revealed their extra blasters. Sinube tapped his lightsaber on the field, which activated the exercise. While the force field decreased in size, Tano deflected the droids' blasts, managing to destroy two. She then flipped in the air and sliced the remaining droids with her lightsaber. The force field then receded, ending the exercise. Afterwards, Tano's master, Anakin Skywalker, explained that the exercise was a lousy test because it was done by every Jedi.
Battle droid remotes were first pictured in the trailer for the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi animated series, released on September 10, 2022. They first appeared in the series' fifth episode, "Practice Makes Perfect," which aired on October 26, 2022.
