The k'Jtari were a group that inhabited the galaxy. A k'Jtari pirate once taught a hand-to-hand combat technique to the human smuggler Sana Starros. In 0 ABY, while en route to Sunspot Prison, Starros used her k'Jtari training to immobilize the rogue archaeologist Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra, a Rebel Alliance prisoner who was attempting to escape custody. Afterward, Starros informed rebel Princess Leia Organa of where she learned the move.
Later that year, Aphra created a recording for Starros that she intended the smuggler to hear after her death. During the recording, the archaeologist recounted a number of events in her life, including the time Starros performed the technique to stop Aphra from escaping and her subsequent mention of the K'Jtari pirate who had taught her it.
In the current Star Wars canon, the k'Jtari were first mentioned in the sixteenth issue of the 2015 comic series Star Wars. The issue was written by Jason Aaron and published by Marvel Comics on February 17, 2016. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the k'Jtari were a species created by Paul Danner for Wretched Hives of Scum & Villainy, a 1997 expansion of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.
