A member of the k'Jtari group was a pirate. This pirate instructed the human smuggler Sana Starros in a hand-to-hand combat maneuver before 0 ABY, which involved striking someone on the back of the neck with an arm. In that year, Starros was transporting Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra, a rogue archaeologist and a prisoner of the Rebel Alliance, to the Alliance's Sunspot Prison aboard her ship. Aphra attempted an escape, but Starros utilized the pirate's technique to subdue her. Subsequently, the smuggler informed Princess Leia Organa, her traveling companion, that the pirate had taught her the move.
Later in the same year, Aphra created a recording intended for Starros to hear after her death. In this recording, the archaeologist recounted various events from her life. These included the incident where Starros used the technique to prevent her escape and the smuggler's reference to the K'Jtari pirate who had imparted the skill.
The first mention of the k'Jtari pirate occurred in Star Wars, the 2015 comic series' sixteenth issue. Marvel Comics published the issue, penned by Jason Aaron, on February 17, 2016.
