Volt Cobra

The Volt Cobra served as the personal starship for the bounty hunter known as Sana Starros. She frequently utilized it for transporting cargo and providing assistance to her allies within the Alliance to Restore the Republic. During a mission aimed at capturing Chelli Aphra, the Cobra suffered a critical hit from Imperial Inspector Magna Tolvan, resulting in Starros being compelled to abandon the vessel.

Characteristics

Equipped aboard the Volt Cobra were a pair of laser cannons. These were positioned atop the spacecraft, allowing for a complete three-hundred-and-sixty-degree targeting range. The ship also included, as a minimum, a single escape pod.

History

Eventually, the Volt Cobra fell into the possession of the smuggler Sana Starros. During 0 ABY, she piloted it to Hradreek with the intention of selling a pair of lightsabers, previously the property of the Sith Lord Darth Atrius, to two separate buyers. After narrowly avoiding capture by Darth Vader, who had acquired one of the lightsabers and sought the other, Starros was compelled to make a hasty retreat from Hradreek aboard the Cobra, carrying her remaining Sith artifacts.

The Volt Cobra escapes the Monsua Nebula

Later, Starros journeyed to a specific planet to confront Han Solo, another smuggler, whom she had previously married as part of a joint operation. A brief argument ensued between her, Organa, and Solo, with Solo attempting to persuade his friend, Leia Organa, that Starros was being deceitful. Before Organa could return to the Invictus and depart, Starros gave the order for the Cobra to fire upon and destroy the shuttle, effectively trapping Leia and Solo on the planet alongside her. Starros intended to sell Leia to the Imperials who were stationed in orbit above the planet, and she communicated with the orbiting Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Subsequently, TIE fighters, along with TIE bombers, descended into the planet's atmosphere and landed nearby. However, after Han informed Starros that he too would be apprehended by the Empire due to his affiliations with the Alliance to Restore the Republic, Starros allowed both him and Organa to board the Volt Cobra in order to escape the planet. Despite being pursued by TIE fighters, the Volt Cobra successfully engaged its hyperspace drive before they could inflict any damage.

Following their escape from the Monsua Nebula, the Volt Cobra proceeded to Nar Shaddaa, where Solo and Organa intervened in an altercation involving Dengar and Chewbacca.

At a later time, the Volt Cobra was assigned the task of transporting Chelli Aphra to the rebel detention facility known as Sunspot Prison, following her capture during the Battle of Vrogas Vas. Aphra managed to escape her restraints on multiple occasions, and during the fourth attempt, Starros violently shook the ship to destabilize Aphra, before exiting the cockpit to render her unconscious. The Cobra successfully reached Sunspot Prison, and Aphra was placed in her designated cell.

On one occasion, Starros used the Volt Cobra to rendezvous with the Krawg pirates. During this meeting, she proposed selling them thirteen crates containing E-11 medium blaster rifles for an initial down payment of 5000 credit and an additional 15000 credits upon completion. The pirates accepted her offer, and she piloted the Cobra to Coruscant, where she met with Lando Calrissian. After informing him about her agreement with the Krawg pirates, she revealed her scheme to sell them the crates, subsequently betray them to the Empire for a reward, and retain possession of the blasters. They then arranged a meeting with an Imperial officer and offered the identities of the pirates and the location of the blasters in exchange for 20000 credits. After the officer accepted and they received the credits, Starros disclosed that she only possessed one of the thirteen crates, with Jabba the Hutt controlling the remainder. After tricking Jabba into a deal which further went against the Krawg pirates, she stole the rest of the crates and put them onto the Cobra. As they departed Tatooine, the Krawg pirates attempted to destroy the Cobra. Fortunately for her and Calrissian, a Star Destroyer intervened and captured the pirates' ship. They then flew the Volt Cobra to Nar Shaddaa, where Calrissian disembarked.

Following the rescue of the protocol droid C-3PO from a Star Destroyer, the Volt Cobra arrived to assist 3PO and his rescuer in escaping the system. The Cobra subsequently accompanied the Millennium Falcon to Horox III after their rebel outpost was massacred.

Shot down

The Volt Cobra is shot down.

At some point, Starros was contacted by General Hera Syndulla with the intention of obtaining encryption codes from Chelli Aphra, who was, at that time, incarcerated within Accresker Jail. She tracked the wreckage-prison to its subsequent destination, a crippled pirate station, and positioned herself nearby in the Volt Cobra. As battle commenced, Starros descended in search of Aphra. She located her attempting to escape, in the presence of a TIE fighter. Presuming that the TIE was attempting to target her, she fired upon it, disabling the starfighter. Starros attempted to warn the pilot not to retaliate, but the pilot, Magna Tolvan, ejected from the exploding TIE with a rocket launcher, firing it directly into the port side of the Cobra, causing the craft to crash. Starros managed to escape the crash and engaged her adversary.

Syndulla attempted to contact the Volt Cobra shortly thereafter, but received no response from the wreckage of the ship. Later, Accresker Jail was observed floating above the Alliance-affiliated planet Tiferep Major. Following her escape from the prison, Starros assembled a small squadron of Alliance starfighters to locate Tolvan and Chelli. During their search, their shuttle recovered the Volt Cobra and Tan Leader was eliminated by Darth Vader. They were then forced to abandon their search for Aphra but successfully escaped with Tolvan.

Smuggling fugitives

The Volt Cobra arrives at the Denes Gois Cluster.

Following the attack on the Mako-Ta Space Docks, Han Solo, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker sought assistance from Starros. She welcomed them aboard the Volt Cobra, and they embarked on a search for Chewbacca and the Millennium Falcon. They made a stop at Barnahof to meet with an informant named Bodo Linx, before proceeding to the Dene Gois Cluster with the hope of reaching Brentaal IV. However, a Star Destroyer obstructed their path, compelling Solo, Skywalker, and Organa to abandon the Cobra via an escape pod. The three successfully reached the moon Hubin.

Behind the scenes

The Volt Cobra made its initial appearance in the canon comic issue Star Wars (2015) 5, authored by Jason Aaron. It was subsequently identified as the Cobra in Star Wars (2015) 8, before receiving its complete designation in Star Wars (2015) 10, both penned by Aaron and illustrated by Stuart Immonen.
