The official state anthem of the Galactic Republic, known also as the Republic Anthem or Anthem of the Republic, was a musical composition titled "All Stars Burn as One". It was created prior to 3640 BBY, and its use persisted up until the Republic's transformation into the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY. This anthem served as a customary greeting at both diplomatic and military gatherings. Following the rise of the Empire, the playing of "All Stars Burn as One" was subsequently prohibited by Imperial Edict 2.33b.
The Galactic Republic employed "All Stars Burn as One" as its official anthem, a musical piece that could be sung and consisted of various verses. Den Dhur, a journalist from Sullust, characterized the anthem's sound as martial. Both Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Human Jedi Knight, and Doolb Snoil, a Vippit barrister, regarded the piece as inspiring.
The musical work "All Stars Burn as One" saw its creation before 3640 BBY. This music served as the anthem for the Galactic Republic as they engaged in the Galactic War against the reconstituted Sith Empire during the period between 3643 BBY and 3640 BBY. "All Stars Burn as One" remained the Republic's anthem by 22 BBY, during the Clone Wars between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. While Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi found the song inspiring at one point in his life, the Clone Wars' tense political and militaristic climate eventually made hearing the song unpleasant for him.
Around 22 BBY, during the Clone Wars, Kenobi was dispatched to the prison planet Ord Cestus to prevent the sale of Force-sensitive JK-13 security droids, which posed a serious danger to the Jedi. Upon his arrival in ChikatLik, the capital of Ord Cestus, a band of musician droids welcomed the Knight's party with performances of both the Cestian anthem and "All Stars Burn as One." The anthem was also played at Republic facilities upon the arrival of a visiting dignitary or high-ranking officer. When Admiral Tarnese Bleyd arrived to inspect Republic Mobile Surgical Unit 7 during a battle on the planet Drongar in 20 BBY, the anthem was performed.
After the Republic transformed into the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, the Empire enacted Imperial Edict 2.33b, which prohibited the playing of "All Stars Burn as One." Around 12 BBY, Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan tampered with the public address system during an assembly at the Collegium for Young Ladies in Crevasse City, re-programming it to play the banned anthem. This incident, among others, led the Collegium's Board of Directors to expel her and return her father's 30,000 credit bond.
The anthem of the Galactic Republic was initially referenced in "When the Domino Falls," a short story from 1994 by Patricia A. Jackson in the third issue of the Star Wars Adventure Journal by West End Games. The Republic's anthem was officially named "All Stars Burn as One" in 2004, with its appearance in The Cestus Deception, a novel by Steven Barnes. A bonus quest series in the BioWare video game Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011) tasks the player, aligned with the Galactic Republic, with changing the music in the Sith Empire-controlled Sunken Sarlacc cantina on Balmorra to something more patriotic. The music played upon completion of this quest section is the same as the Old Republic theme from the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which also functions as the primary theme and Revan's theme. Nevertheless, the game does not explicitly state whether the music played is the Republic anthem.
