Brendok coven
History
The power wielded by Aniseya's coven was viewed by some as being aligned with the dark. Because of this, the coven was forced into hiding on Brendok around 148 BBY.
In that same year, twin sisters named Verosha and Mae-ho Aniseya were scheduled to participate in the Rite of Ascension, a ritual that hadn't been performed since the coven went into exile. The ritual was interrupted by the arrival of four Jedi at the coven's fortress. The Jedi were concerned about allegations that the witches were training children. Initially, the coven tried to conceal the twins, denying the presence of any children. However, the Jedi soon discovered the truth about the two young girls, which prompted one of the witches to attack the Jedi, until a truce was brokered. Verosha expressed a desire to become a Jedi, which Mae-ho found appalling. The Jedi offered to evaluate the twins, with Osha requesting permission from the coven leader to be tested, and the Jedi reminding the coven of their right to assess the girls. The coven leader reluctantly consented to the evaluation.
The coven pressured the girls to intentionally fail the Jedi's test. When the Jedi realized this deception, Verosha was persuaded to be honest and take the test seriously. This angered Mae-ho, leading her to steal her sister's journal and set it ablaze. The fire rapidly spread, blocking the doorway to Verosha's room. After escaping through a hatch, she entered a large room containing a generator, which soon exploded. When Sol and Torbin encountered a group of witches, tensions escalated. As both sides prepared to fight, Aniseya employed a Thread power, which Sol misinterpreted as an attack, causing him to strike the witch leader with his lightsaber. A battle broke out, forcing the witches to retreat. They combined their power to control Kelnacca, compelling him to attack the other Jedi, until Master Indara broke the spell, freeing the mind-controlled Jedi. Verosha then faced a furious Mae-ho on a damaged bridge. The bridge gave way, but Jedi Master Sol rescued Verosha as she fell. Upon exiting the fortress, the bodies of several witches, including Mother Aniseya, were found scattered across the floor. They had perished from the backlash of their broken mind-control Force power, which they had used to force a Wookiee to attack other Jedi.
Religion and philosophy
Aniseya's coven held a unique perspective on the Force, referring to it as "the Thread." According to Aniseya, the Thread was not meant to be used or controlled. Instead, it served as a bond connecting all living beings, linking them to their destinies. The coven invoked the Thread during the Rite of Ascension. Sol found their practices, including what he perceived as a lack of concern for their children, deeply unsettling. While they were mistakenly thought to be a splinter group using dark magic like the Nightsisters, a distinction between them and the Nightsisters of that time was that the Nightsisters did not train younglings.
The Thread was portrayed as a collaborative and cumulative power, with greater strength achieved through the combined efforts of multiple users. For example, a pair of witches could actively resist a telekinetic push that could easily knock away a single individual. They acknowledged that their powers were classified as dark side, and one of their abilities was to break the mind and hold a Force-user helpless and on the edge of insanity. Another power that their leaders used was to turn into a black mist and disappeared and the coven by combining their powers could take control over some Jedi and force said Jedi to try to kill his allies.
