Ask Aak was a Gran senator of the male persuasion, who served the planet of Malastare in the Galactic Senate as the Republic's final years drew to a close. When the Separatist Crisis began, Aak became a member of the Loyalist Committee under Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. As an advocate for military response to the Confederacy of Independent Systems, this senator championed the deployment of the clone trooper army as a means of defending the Republic. This resulted in the formation of the Grand Army of the Republic, which in turn led to the Clone Wars' outbreak.

During the Secessionist Movement, a time defined by political strain between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Ask Aak took on the role of representing Malastare in the Galactic Senate, stepping in for Aks Moe after his assassination. He gained access to Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine's inner circle, the same Palpatine who was secretly Darth Sidious, a Dark Lord of the Sith manipulating the situation. Aak was in Palpatine's office when Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi transmitted a holographic message to Coruscant, warning of the Commerce Guild's and Corporate Alliance's newly formed alliance with Count Dooku, a Sith Lord and Separatist leader. Aak declared that the debate regarding military intervention was finished, and the Republic needed the clone army that Kenobi discovered being secretly produced on Kamino. Bail Organa, senator of Alderaan, did not agree that the debate was over, believing that the Senate would not authorize the use of clones before a Separatist attack.

Following the meeting in the Chancellor's office, Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks from Naboo put forward a proposal to grant Palpatine emergency executive powers, allowing him to approve the deployment of the clone army. The Senate approved the measure, and the clone troopers were transformed into the Grand Army of the Republic and immediately deployed during the First Battle of Geonosis. Aak later stood with Palpatine and other Senators, watching as tens of thousands of clones departed for additional battles against the Separatists during the Clone Wars.
When Palpatine was rescued from General Grievous during the Battle of Coruscant in 19 BBY, Ask was one of the Senators who greeted him on the landing platform. Happy to be rescued, Palpatine stopped in second place but was still quick to get in. He was later in the Senate when Palpatine proclaimed the Galactic Empire, a government that replaced the Republic.
Ask Aak was a Gran distinguished by his orange-brown skin and three black eyes. Aak professed a deep patriotism for the Republic, consistently supporting Palpatine and the war effort while challenging or threatening those who did not.
Senator Ask Aak's initial appearance was in the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. Steven Boyle played the character. He later appeared in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, with Paul Spence taking on the role.
