A collection of mercenary soldiers operating under the command of Azkul were known as Azkul's mercenaries. Azkul was previously a Sith trooper serving Darth Malak during the time of the Jedi Civil War.
This group consisted of war veterans from both the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. During the era of the First Jedi Purge, Azkul relocated his group to Dantooine, a world located in the Outer Rim that was grassy, strategically significant, yet sparsely populated. Once established there, they accepted a contract from the Exchange to seize control of the Khoonda government by assassinating Administrator Terena Adare and Captain Zherron of the Khoonda Militia. As they planned their assault, a team under Azkul's orders intercepted and apprehended Jedi Master Vrook Lamar, who had been exploring the sublevels of the ruined Jedi Enclave.
However, when the Jedi Exile rescued Lamar from captivity within one of the organization's camps in the local kinrath cave, the attack was initiated. Despite this, with the Exile and Lamar's help, the mercenary attack failed, resulting in the near annihilation of the entire organization.
Despite the group not having a formal designation, dialogue with various characters in the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords indicates that Azkul exercised absolute control over the group.
If the player chooses the dark path as the Exile, they will instead assist Azkul and his mercenaries in assassinating the Administrator and Zherron, thereby solidifying the Exchange's control over the planet. Later on, a group of mercenaries under Azkul's leadership will appear to support the Exile against the Sith during the Battle of Telos IV.
