Battle in the Resettlement Zone laboratory

As the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire neared its end, Imperial Military units, under the direction of Watcher One, launched an assault on a laboratory owned by the scientist Doctor Nasan Godera. This lab was situated within the Republic Resettlement Zone located on Taris. Watcher One, an operative working for Imperial Intelligence, had been tasked with finding Godera. He successfully used the facility to pinpoint Godera's location. However, after he left, the Imperial soldiers met their death when a young Jedi Knight and an ally arrived, also seeking Godera. Watcher One then deployed troopers and battle droids with stealth field generators in an attempt to ambush the Knight. Despite this, the Jedi prevailed and pressed on in their pursuit of Godera.

Prelude

In the year 3643 BBY, amidst the Cold War that raged between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, Tarnis, a Sith Lord, was killed in a duel by a young Jedi Knight. This occurred when Tarnis attempted to deploy the Planet Prison superweapon against Coruscant, the Republic capital. His father, Darth Angral, was enraged by Tarnis's demise. In retaliation, Angral declared a war of vengeance against both the Republic and the Jedi Order. Angral then sent his three Sith apprentices on a mission to seize several Republic superweapon projects. These projects had been revealed to Angral by Tarnis, who had been posing as a Republic scientist before his death.

Tarnis had also shared information indicating that Doctor Nasan Godera, a brilliant Republic scientist who had abandoned the Republic after the Treaty of Coruscant concluded the Great Galactic War a decade prior, was located on the planet of Taris. Consequently, Angral dispatched Watcher One from Imperial Intelligence to Taris, accompanied by a contingent of Imperial soldiers, with orders to capture Godera. Watcher One was aware of the existence of several underground laboratories belonging to Godera, though these facilities were only staffed by droids. He then began his search for Godera on the planet. However, Republic General Var Suthra dispatched the Jedi Knight who had defeated Tarnis, along with the Knight's Padawan, Kira Carsen, and the Knight's astromech droid, T7-O1, to Taris, also with the goal of locating Godera.

The battle

One of the Imperial operatives decloaks.

Upon learning of the trio's arrival, Watcher One led a force consisting of Imperial stealth operatives, battle droids, and Imperial Intelligence officers to secure the lab situated in the Republic Resettlement Zone. This facility was the closest to the Republic's Olaris Reclamation Base, where the Jedi had landed. The Republic had already discovered the Resettlement Zone facility, and General Suthra had stationed a small team of four Republic troopers there to monitor it. Watcher One's forces quickly eliminated the droid staff and Suthra's team. They then utilized the facility's tracking relays to trace Godera's bioscan to a laboratory located in the Brell Sediment area. After destroying the central computer to prevent its further use, he departed, leaving his troops to guard the lab. Soon after, the Jedi and a companion arrived and fought their way through the Imperial forces as they descended into the wrecked lab. The two defeated nearly a dozen Imperial stealth operatives and battle droids, clearing the lab of hostiles. On the lower level, an Imperial assassin and two assassin droids attacked the pair, but they too were defeated.

The assassin had been communicating with Watcher One via a holoprojector. Watcher One, already en route to Godera's location, addressed the Jedi as the Knight approached the device. The agent also contacted nearby forces, dispatching a number of operatives and droids to the lab. Watcher One began stalling for time while speaking to the Jedi, allowing his operatives to reach their positions. He revealed his knowledge of the Jedi's exploits on Tython, the Jedi Order's homeworld, hoping to undermine the Knight's confidence. When the Knight dismissed Watcher One's comments, Watcher One ordered his operatives to decloak and eliminate the Jedi before ending the transmission. Despite the element of surprise, the three Imperial operatives and two droids who attacked the Knight were ultimately defeated by the Jedi and the Knight's companion.

Aftermath

Following the defeat of Watcher One's forces, the Jedi was greeted by RE-M0, Godera's droid assistant, who had remained hidden during the Imperial attack. RE-M0 then repaired the central computer while the Knight reset the external tracking relays in the area. With the droid's assistance, the Jedi tracked Godera's biosignature to the Brell Sediment lab, arriving just as Watcher One's forces were securing the facility. However, Watcher One escaped with Godera during the ensuing fight. Shortly after the Jedi's departure, RE-M0 performed a second bioscan on Godera. He detected that Godera had been moved from that lab, followed the Jedi to the Brell Sediment lab, and warned the Knight about Watcher One's deception, revealing the Imperial's attempt to convince the Jedi that Godera was dead.

Behind the scenes

The battle within the Resettlement Zone lab was first featured in "The Architect of Annihilation," a mission designed for the Jedi Knight class in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a video game developed by BioWare and released in 2011.
