Boorka

During the era of 22 BBY, a male Hutt crime lord named Boorka held sway on the planet of Tatooine. As the Clone Wars outbreak began, pitting the Galactic Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Boorka received intelligence from Bogeega Bu'Daay. This operative, stationed on Eredenn Prime, revealed details about the Republic's new superweapons program, known as the Decimators. Boorka announced that this information would be sold to the highest bidder, an offer quickly accepted by the Confederacy. They dispatched a droid army contingent led by General Sev'rance Tann to Tatooine.

Boorka stipulated that the Separatists must destroy a Republic spaceport near the city of Mos Osnoe in exchange for the intelligence. This spaceport was negatively impacting the profits of the Hutt Cartel, a criminal syndicate to which Boorka belonged. The Separatist army successfully accomplished this task. Subsequently, Boorka provided the Separatists with the information, enabling them to seize control of the Decimators and conquer Sarapin, a Republic planet vital for its energy production. However, when the Republic retook Sarapin, Jedi General Echuu Shen-Jon discovered the Hutt Cartel's knowledge of General Tann's whereabouts. Shen-Jon soon uncovered Boorka's alliance with the Separatists, including their establishment of a clandestine trade operation on Tatooine. The Jedi, leading his army, launched an attack on Boorka's forces, ultimately killing the Hutt and expelling the Separatists from Tatooine.

Biography

A crime lord of the Hutt species, Boorka was a male operating out of Tatooine and deeply involved with the Hutt Cartel. Around the time that the Clone Wars began - a massive conflict engulfing the galaxy between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems - Boorka was contacted by Bogeega Bu'Daay, a Cartel agent stationed on Eredenn Prime. Bu'Daay had discovered classified information concerning a Republic superweapon program, specifically the Decimator, which was being developed by members of the Wookiee species. Bu'Daay relayed all the specifics he could gather about the Decimator, including its weaponry and [shielding](/article/deflector_shield-legends], assuring Boorka that this knowledge could be exploited for profit. Boorka instructed Bu'Daay to continue monitoring the Decimator project, but the Wookiees involved detected the operative and intercepted his transmissions, preventing further data collection.

Sev'rance Tann meeting with Boorka

Boorka then advertised the availability of information regarding a secret Republic superweapon, offering it to the highest bidder. This offer was taken up by Separatist forces under the command of General Sev'rance Tann, a Dark Jedi who had received orders from Confederate leader Count Dooku to acquire the intelligence by any means necessary. Tann arrived on Tatooine with a small detachment of the Separatist droid army, leading them to Boorka's Palace near the city of Mos Osnoe. Boorka had his subordinates lay in wait along the route to ambush Tann's army, but the battle droids defeated and killed them. Upon Tann's arrival at Boorka's Palace, the Hutt complimented her military prowess and then outlined the terms for the Separatists to obtain the secret intelligence in his possession. Boorka explained that the Republic had established a spaceport outside of Mos Osnoe to capitalize on trading profits from the Outer Rim in order to fund the war effort, but this spaceport was interfering with the Hutt Cartel's own profits. Therefore, Boorka demanded that Tann's army destroy the spaceport in exchange for the information. After Tann's forces defeated the Republic garrison of clone troopers defending the spaceport and destroyed the facility, Boorka revealed his knowledge of the Decimator and its production on Eredenn Prime.

Boorka continued his partnership with the Separatists, funneling credits and supplies to them through a hidden base established on Tatooine. Utilizing the Hutt's intelligence, the CIS successfully seized the Decimators and used them to capture Sarapin, a Republic planet vital for its energy resources. In response, the Republic dispatched Jedi General Echuu Shen-Jon and his Padawan Naat Reath to retake the planet. During the battle, Confederate Officer Zian Finnis informed the Jedi that the Hutt Cartel possessed knowledge of Tann's location. Motivated by a desire to avenge Stam's death, his first Padawan and Naat's brother, Shen-Jon led his forces to Tatooine and met with Jabba Desilijic Tiure, another member of the Cartel and one of Boorka's rivals. Jabba revealed Boorka's alliance with the Separatists and disclosed the location of their hidden base, an operation that angered Jabba due to the competition it posed. Shen-Jon agreed to destroy the way station, but Jabba refused to be seen fighting a fellow Hutt, leaving the Republic forces to confront the Separatists independently. The Republic army attacked Boorka's hideout, killing the Hutt and destroying the Separatist way-station. As a reward for eliminating his competitor, Jabba gifted Shen-Jon 500 nova crystals, a type of mineral used as currency throughout the galaxy.

Personality and traits

Boorka demonstrated a willingness to sell information on the Decimator to the Separatists purely for financial gain. He readily sacrificed his henchmen, placing them in the path leading to his palace to test the Confederate army, fully aware they would be killed. After witnessing her military skill, the Hutt complimented Sev'rance Tann on her leadership abilities. Boorka maintained a fierce rivalry with Jabba Desilijic Tiure, which ultimately contributed to his downfall when Jabba betrayed him to the Republic. When at his palace, Boorka was usually surrounded by a small entourage, including a male and female Twi'lek, several Gamorrean guards, a Weequay guard, a droid, several Jawas, and an Aqualish. Boorka spoke the Huttese language, and had green skin on his backside, no hair and light brown skin on his face and abdomen.

Behind the scenes

Boorka the Hutt made his debut in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, specifically in Clone Campaigns, the 2002 expansion pack for the 2001 PC video game. Clint Bajakian provided the voice for Boorka. He is featured in the third level of the Separatist campaign, titled "Perilous Dealings," where the player commands the Separatist forces and destroys the Republic spaceport to secure Boorka's deal. He also appears in the third level of the Republic campaign, "Never trust a Hutt," where the player controls the Republic forces and has the option to kill Boorka as a side quest. The game's databank includes a transmission between Boorka and Bogeega Bu'Daay, revealing how Boorka initially learned about the Decimator's existence. Boorka's in-game character model was identical to that of Jabba the Hutt. In 2009, Boorka received a mention in The Clone Wars Campaign Guide, which confirmed that Republic forces had killed him.
