Broof Yurdel, a male Gungan, served as a soldier, security operative, and resistance fighter in the era preceding the Clone Wars.
Broof Yurdel participated in the Battle of Naboo (32 BBY) as a veteran. Although he never personally encountered General Jar Jar Binks, Yurdel greatly admired Binks and always used his full surname when referring to him, having heard of his esteemed reputation.
Following the Trade Federation's defeat, Yurdel relocated to Cularin. There, he secured a position with Gungan Security as the supervisor of the midnight shift and resided with his lifemate near the Estauril River in Gadrin.
Yurdel held a deep sense of pride in the warrior traditions of his people. Consequently, when the Cularin resistance was established to oppose the Metatheran Cartel, he, along with his entire shift of eleven other Gungans (and presumably Yurdel's lifemate), left to join their ranks. This departure, though executed during off-hours and with meticulous log updates, significantly impacted Gungan Security, leaving them severely understaffed.
While Gerta Haman emerged as the de facto leader of the resistance, Yurdel and Nim'Ri served as her trusted advisors and co-leaders. Yurdel also acted as an informal leader to his former subordinates. He and his Gungan comrades appeared to be responsible for the security of the resistance base's.
Yurdel, alongside Nim'Ri and Haman, extended a greeting to some unexpected guests who had located their base while searching for the missing individuals, including the Gungans. The resistance leaders attempted to dissuade them from disclosing the location of their hidden refuge.
One month later, Yurdel welcomed those same individuals back to their base. Haman had dispatched them on an information retrieval mission, ultimately finding them trapped in a dua-wurm pit. Yurdel escorted them to Haman, who proceeded to analyze the data they had acquired. Upon realizing that the remaining crucial data was located within the heavily guarded Cartel jungle base, Haman instructed Yurdel to organize a military assault to secure the final piece of evidence needed to solidify their case.
However, the Cartel had been monitoring the independent agents, leading to an attack on the resistance base, nearly resulting in Haman's death. Distraught by this event, Yurdel led his Gungans and other resistance fighters in the planned raid on the Cartel's base. The casualties inflicted by the Cartel's attack prompted many resistance members to disregard the initial plan of using only stun settings. Yurdel himself nearly succumbed to this impulse, but at the last moment, he switched his weapon back to stun in deference to Gerta's wishes.
Yurdel issued orders for his snipers to eliminate the Caarite sentinels before directing his troops to breach the jungle base through the main entrance. Upon noticing a Cartel security symbol on the door leading to the barracks, Yurdel made the decision to detonate the door's controls, effectively sealing the soldiers inside. Unfortunately, the one hundred and twenty-five Caarite soldiers were located in a different room, and Yurdel's action triggered the alarms. A fierce shootout erupted between the two factions in the base's corridors, while the independent agents attempted to reach the records room to retrieve the final data. Yurdel maintained his position, as he had an escape route while the Caarites did not. Moreover, only one in five Caarites could fire at any given time from their location.
Eventually, Wir was defeated by the independent agents, and the Caarite soldiers, realizing their untenable situation, surrendered to Yurdel. All survivors evacuated the jungle base, which was subsequently destroyed by the Metatheran Cartel using turbolasers, eliminating any remaining evidence against them.
Following Yurdel's forces' victory over the Cartel at the base, and with their allies securing the critical information they sought, the Cartel withdrew from Cularin, claiming that Wir's unauthorized actions would be investigated before their return. The leaders of the resistance were honored by governor Barnab Chistor of Gadrin, and the members of the resistance resumed their normal lives.
When the Thaereian military appeared to be overstepping its bounds in safeguarding the Cularin system, Yurdel was among the resistance members who enlisted in the newly formed Cularin Militia, contributing to the establishment of a local defense force for the Cularin system.
