Gerta Haman

title: Gerta Haman

Previously an inventory supervisor at the Jax Warehouse located in Hedrett, Gerta Haman gained greater recognition as a fervent political activist. She voiced her beliefs with fervor regarding the importance of cultural preservation for the Tarasin. Kris Wahl, a prosperous gambler who shared her fervor much to his parent's chagrin, became a financial supporter of her causes.

Biography

Driven by concerns about the actions of the Metatheran Cartel under the leadership of Velin Wir, Gerta spearheaded the Cularin resistance, aiming to uncover evidence of their illicit operations. She personally witnessed the Cartel's destruction of ch'hala trees and even managed to acquire a holorecording documenting their crime. However, she was aware that any attempt to publicly reveal the recording would be dismissed by the Cartel as a fabrication. In her view, the Cartel was as reprehensible as the Trade Federation, despite her lack of firsthand experience with the latter.

Gerta made the decision to vanish alongside several others from Gadrin and Hedrett, establishing a Cularin resistance dedicated to opposing the Cartel. She divested herself of her possessions and journeyed to their newly established base, the Cloud Mountain mines. In the ensuing days, numerous individuals, including Wahl, similarly "disappeared," creating a disturbance in the Force that was detected by Jedi Master Lanius Qel-Bertuk.

Gerta emerged as the de facto leader of the resistance, with Nim'Ri and Broof Yurdel serving as her principal advisors. She prioritized avoiding bloodshed and insisted that the resistance would not be the first to resort to lethal force.

Eventually, independent operatives dispatched by Master Qel-Bertuk located the resistance's base. Haman, Nim'Ri, and Yurdel engaged with them, attempting to dissuade them from disclosing any information about the resistance.

One month later, Haman resolved to seek out confidential Cartel files, specifically reports detailing how they obtained their charter for Cularin and their financial records from that period, which would identify any Cularin officials who had been bribed. She secured speeders for their escape and a sophisticated, heavily-modified datapad (likely created by the renowned slicer Baylan) to extract data from the Cartel's systems. However, she also required an individual from outside the resistance to approach the local Metatheran Cartel operations office in Gadrin. Consequently, she requested Corporal Ortin from OPS, a member of the resistance, to arrange a clandestine meeting with those independent agents at the OPS third sector precinct house. Haman then returned to the Cloud Mountain mines secret base using a concealed route.

The operation proved successful, and the agents delivered the information to Haman at the mines. However, certain verification file codes were missing, which she discovered were exclusively accessible within the heavily guarded Metatheran Cartel jungle base. She tasked Broof Yurdel and his troops with preparing a raid and invited the independent agents to collaborate with Yurdel. Noticing Yurdel's excessive enthusiasm for the assignment, she specifically instructed him to set the weapons to stun. She also enlisted Kris Wahl to interrogate the independent agents to gather any intelligence they might possess regarding the jungle base, as they had previously been there.

However, the Cartel was monitoring the stolen data, and a Caarite force aligned with the Cartel launched an assault on the resistance's secret headquarters. Haman found herself caught in the crossfire but nonetheless attempted to reach her comrades. She was then shot in the back and seriously wounded. Only the swift intervention of some allies of the resistance saved her life.

Given Haman's critical condition, Yurdel was even less inclined to employ non-lethal force; nevertheless, he directed his troops to set weapons to stun, adhering to what Haman would have desired. Haman was unable to participate in the subsequent raid against the jungle base, which proved successful and resulted in the Cartel's withdrawal from Cualrin. Shortly thereafter, governor Barnab Chistor of Gadrin honored Haman and the other resistance leaders for their accomplishments.

Subsequently, Haman journeyed to Coruscant to meet with Senator Lavinia Wren. She was accompanied by Jedi General Ish-Bel Tur. Tragically, their ship was destroyed, resulting in the deaths of both Haman and Tur.

Behind the scenes

During the events of the RPG adventure A Revelation, Gerta Haman's death is a possibility during the mines showdown if the player characters act unheroically. The adventure includes a text describing her death as one of the potential outcomes. However, the adventure A Mon Alone, which occurs later, presents a different account of her death that seemingly overrides the "improbable but possible death" in A Revelation.

This potential death is likely intended to be referenced in the "Critical Event Summary," so that the performance of the majority of official playing parties would become the canon story about that event. However, an apparent typo replaced Haman's name with Renna's.
