Velin Wir

Velin Wir was a business manager of the Caarite species (a male), a Force Adept, and served as the Metatheran Cartel's representative to the Cularin system. He held this position before it was taken by Thurm Loogg.

Biography

Around the year 31 BBY, Velin Wir played a role in the Metatheran Cartel's endeavors to secure a charter on Cularin. Their goal was to establish a trading hub there. To achieve this, the Cartel found it necessary to bribe certain influential members of the Trade Federation and employees within the Baron Administrators' offices in Cularin's main cities, namely Gadrin and Hedrett. Wir meticulously documented these bribery transactions in his personal datapad.

Although Velin Wir possessed a slight sensitivity to the Force, his skills in lightsaber combat were not particularly refined. He did, however, possess a lightsaber, which was a gift from the crimelord Riboga, who was a Hutt. This lightsaber was equipped with a proximity sensor that, if the lightsaber were moved more than three meters from Wir, would trigger the lightsaber's circuits to fail and detonate a small thermal detonator implanted in Wir's chest.

During the bicentennial celebration of Reidi Artom's founding of Gadrin, Velin Wir disrupted the city's festivities to announce the Cartel's plans to construct a trading and distribution center on Cularin. He omitted the fact that a Cartel base had already been secretly constructed within the jungle to the west of Gadrin.

Velin Wir had engaged a band of pirates to pilfer shipments of advanced technological supplies from various commercial entities. The pirates utilized a landing platform that was situated conveniently close to the Cartel's base, yet sufficiently distant to allow for plausible deniability regarding any connection between the Cartel and the pirates.

There were unverified reports that Wir had engaged in discussions with the shady businessman Rufus Trammel, but the Metatheran Cartel neither confirmed nor denied these allegations.

When the pirates abducted an employee of House Hirskaala named Darin, who claimed to possess information that could bring about the Cartel's downfall, a group of individuals searching for him tracked the pirates' movements and followed rumors that led them to the vicinity of the Cartel base and the pirates' platform. A security patrol discovered these visitors and escorted them into the Cartel base. Velin Wir informed them about a platform near his base which saw a considerable amount of traffic, but claimed to have no further knowledge of it. He dispatched one of his security patrols to guide the investigators to the platform. Later, he dominated the news with stories emphasizing his role in assisting the "heroes of Cularin" in eradicating the pirate threat, simultaneously revealing the existence of the jungle base.

These heroes re-entered Wir's life a little over a month later when they assisted the Cularin resistance. The resistance had obtained evidence of Wir's illicit activities, including the unauthorized felling of ch'hala trees, which constituted a violation of the Cularin Compact. One final piece of evidence was required to solidify their case. Following an assault by the Cartel's forces on the resistance's hidden base, the resistance launched an attack on the Cartel's jungle base in an attempt to acquire this evidence. The heroes bypassed the ongoing conflict to retrieve the information from the records room, where they encountered Wir, who confronted them with his activated lightsaber. During the ensuing battle with the intruders, he was disarmed and met his demise.

The Metatheran Cartel subsequently destroyed Wir's jungle base and withdrew from Cularin. However, they maintained that Wir had acted independently and that they would investigate their staff for further corruption before considering a return. Thurm Loogg was then appointed as the next Metatheran Cartel envoy. He devoted much of his efforts to mitigating the public relations disaster caused by Velin Wir, and appeared to wield less actual authority.
