Hailing from the southern regions of Keshtah, a continent situated on the planet Kesh, Campion Dey was renowned as an uvak wrangler. He belonged to the Lost Tribe of Sith, a community of Human Sith who found themselves marooned on Kesh during the Great Hyperspace War circa 5000 BBY. In 3960 BBY, he represented the Kitai family at a rake-riding competition held in the Korsinata stadium, located within the city of Tahv. During this event, Dey made an attempt on the life of Lillia Venn, the Grand Lord of the Lost Tribe of Sith; however, his assault was unsuccessful, leading to his immediate death at the hands of the Luzo brothers, Flen and Sawj. The reality was that Grand Lord Lillia orchestrated this assassination attempt to eliminate her political rivals and consolidate her power by promoting her allies to the Circle of Lords. Dey's actions set off a chain of events, revealing the secret Jedi Jelph Marrian and his starship, resulting in Grand Lord Venn's demise, and ushering in the Time of the Rot, a millennium characterized by anarchy and disorder within the Tribe's history.
More than a thousand years after the ancestors of the Lost Tribe of Sith, under the command of Captain Yaru Korsin, had conquered the indigenous Keshiri inhabiting Keshtah, a continent in the southern part of the planet Kesh, Campion Dey came of age. Campion was an uvak wrangler specializing in rake-riding, a savage and brutal sport involving flightless uvak, reptilian creatures, and their respective riders. The uvak used in rake-riding had their wing muscles cut at birth, ensuring they remained permanently grounded. He hailed from the southern reaches of the continent, residing near Starfall, which also served as the home of his sponsors, High Lord Candra Kitai and her Sith Saber daughter, Orielle Kitai. He forged a strong bond with the Kitais, who not only sponsored his training but also held him in high regard. While Campion possessed competence, he was not considered among the elite rake-riders.
In 3960 BBY, Campion participated in the Donellan's Day rake-riding games, an event attended by prominent Sith figures, including the reigning Grand Lord Lillia Venn, Candra, Orielle, and Dernas and Pallima, who led the Red and Gold Factions. While the Grand Lord and her allies, the Luzo brothers Flen and Sawj Luzo, sponsored two uvak-wranglers, the Kitais entered only Campion. These sporting competitions were viewed as power struggles between the rival Sith factions. During the games, the Kitais expressed concerns that Campion's chances of victory were slim, given the presence of more aggressive and seasoned riders. As the game commenced, Campion and his uvak surprisingly withdrew from the main conflict.
Then, in some manner, Campion maneuvered his uvak mount to leap and soar toward the grandstands. Standing upright in his saddle, Campion brandished his Sith lightsaber and emitted an unintelligible shout towards the crowd. Campion's actions triggered widespread panic and bewilderment among the Sith and Keshiri spectators. Subsequently, Campion directed the uvak into a gallop toward the Grand Lord's royal box in the grandstand, causing injuries to several spectators along the way. However, Grand Lord Venn employed Force lightning to eliminate Campion's uvak, causing both the animal and its rider to plummet backward onto the lower seating area. Venn's bodyguards, Flen and Sawj, then descended upon the wounded Campion, swiftly ending his life with their lightsabers. Campion's actions deeply shocked his sponsors, the Kitai family, who had not orchestrated an assassination attempt on the Grand Lord and were perplexed by his impulsive behavior.
The repercussions of Campion Dey's actions initiated a sequence of events that would reshape the Tribe's historical trajectory. In reality, this assassination attempt had been staged by Grand Lord Lillia as an opportunity to eliminate her political opponents and to strengthen her own political position by promoting her supporters to the Circle of Lords. Firstly, his sponsors, the Kitai family, were relegated to the status of slaves and divested of all their previous titles, lands, and possessions. The primary sponsor, High Lord Candra Kitai, was coerced into confessing a conspiracy with Dernas and Pallima, the leaders of the Red and Gold Factions, to assassinate Lillia. While Grand Lord Lillia spared Candra's life, she publicly humiliated her by forcing her to shovel manure. Secondly, this political downfall motivated Candra's daughter, Orielle Kitai, to seek a means of restoring her family's standing. An opportunity arose when Orielle discovered that her friend Jelph Marrian was, in fact, an off-world Jedi possessing a hyperspace-capable starship, a "Kesh-shaking" technology that could enable the Tribe to return to the stars.
Thirdly, Lillia became aware of Orielle's discovery after the latter's mother betrayed her daughter, selling the information to the Grand Lord in exchange for "improved working conditions." Driven by her ambitions, Lillia journeyed to Jelph Marrian's farm, intending to seize the starship. However, the vehicle had been rigged with an ingenious "anti-theft system," which resulted in the destruction of the vehicle, its occupant, and Lillia's followers in a violent conflagration. Consequently, Dey's actions precipitated the demise of Grand Lord Lillia, a development that would have profound implications for the centuries that followed. Finally, the "disappearance" of Lillia during the so-called Night of the Upside-Down Meteor gave rise to an internal power struggle that would persist for nearly a millennium. This conflict wreaked havoc across much of Keshtah until the Caretaker Varner Hilts successfully resolved the conflict and reunited the Tribe in 3000 BBY.
Campion Dey was an accomplished uvak wrangler who rode flightless uvak in rake-riding, one of the most brutal and violent sports on Sith-dominated Kesh. As a member of the Lost Tribe, he possessed Force-sensitivity and was proficient in the use of a lightsaber. He cultivated a close friendship with his sponsors, Lady Candra Kitai and her daughter, Orielle Kitai. However, he concealed a secret from them: his intention to assassinate the reigning Grand Lord Lillia Venn. This reckless and impulsive act led to his own demise and the downfall of his sponsors.
Campion Dey made an appearance as a minor supporting character, not from a point-of-view perspective, in John Jackson Miller's eBook Lost Tribe of the Sith: Purgatory, which was published on October 25, 2010. This marks his only known appearance in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. According to an email from Miller dated January 22 2014, Campion was either manipulated by Lillia Venn's agents into launching a solitary attack on the Grand Lord or was swayed by Venn's camp into staging an attack, only to discover, to his surprise, that his own death was part of the plan.
