Comm Datacore

The Comm Datacore functioned as the property of the Azzameen family, serving as the central hub for all communications transmitted and received across their holdings. Initially, this datacore was installed at the family's space facility, known as Azzameen Station. However, the Galactic Empire identified the Azzameen family's involvement with the Rebel Alliance, leading to their declaration as traitors. Consequently, the Empire initiated the nationalization of all Azzameen property. Following the Azzameens' expulsion from their orbital residence, Azzameen Station underwent a stripping process, with most of its installed equipment being removed. The Comm Datacore was subsequently dispatched to an Imperial scrapyard situated near Tolig IV, where it was placed within a cargo container.

Subsequently, Emon Azzameen, accompanied by his younger brother, Ace, undertook a mission with the objective of retrieving the datacore. Their purpose was to validate their suspicions regarding an information leak to their adversaries originating from within their organization. During the ensuing conflict at the scrapyard between the Azzameen brothers and a group of raiders, the family droid, MK-09, successfully secured the cargo container containing the Comm Datacore. Emon then entrusted the recovered data to his sister, Aeron, who proceeded to slice through the logs in search of pertinent communications.

Description

The Comm Datacore was a communications datacore originally housed within Azzameen Station. Its function was to manage and record communications throughout the orbital installation owned and managed by the Azzameen family. Aeron Azzameen, the family's technician, believed the datacore also tracked covert communications, potentially those from disloyal agents working against the family and its trading enterprise, Twin Suns Transport Services. The Comm Datacore archived both incoming and outgoing communications, allowing for their preservation, access, and download even after its removal from the station. Its compact size allowed it to fit comfortably inside a seven-meter-long Class-K cargo container.

History

The discarded Comm Datacore was stored in a Class-K cargo container at Junkyard Control.

Around 3 ABY, the Comm Database found its place in Azzameen Station, the Azzameen family's base in the Garis sector of the Outer Rim Territories. The Azzameens relied on the datacore to keep tabs on and record all communications passing through their facility.

Shortly after the Battle of Hoth during the Galactic Civil War, Imperial forces discovered the Azzameen family's assistance to the Rebel Alliance. The Empire's response included issuing arrest warrants for the Azzameens and seizing their assets. Following a series of skirmishes between the Empire and the Azzameen family, Azzameen Station fell under Imperial control, forcing the Azzameens to seek refuge with the Alliance Fleet. Azzameen Station was subsequently stripped of much of its internal equipment, including the Comm Datacore. The datacore was then transported to Junkyard Control, an Imperial scrapyard near the planet Tolig IV, where it was stored within a Class-K cargo container.

After several incidents involving interference with the Azzameens' efforts to rebuild their dissolved company, Aeron Azzameen began investigating the Comm Datacore's location, believing it could be sliced to identify a rogue agent within the Azzameens leaking information about the family's activities. Her investigation eventually led her to Junkyard Control. With the Comm Datacore's location pinpointed, Aeron enlisted the help of her brothers, Emon and Rebellion pilot Ace, along with family droid MK-09, to explore the scrapyard and retrieve the data stored within the datacore. After locating their property among the scrapyard's containers and engaging in a brief conflict with a raiding party attempting to disrupt their operation, MK-09 successfully downloaded the datacore's information, which remained intact throughout the battle. Emon then gathered the data and delivered it to Aeron.

Behind the scenes

The Comm Datacore was featured in the 1999 video game Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance. Later missions reveal that Antan Azzameen, co-owner of Twin Suns Transport Services and the uncle of Aeron, Emon, and Ace, was the mole within the family, collaborating with the Imperials to restore the family business. However, neither the game nor its accompanying Prima Games strategy guide provides detailed information about the Comm Datacore's role in this discovery. In the mission focused on recovering the datacore, destroying the K-class container—and consequently the datacore inside—results in immediate failure, as does the destruction of MK-09 before, during, or after the data transfer.
