Culroon III, also called Culroon, was a location situated within the galaxy, and it was inhabited by the Culroonians. Not long before the famous Battle of Hoth, which took place in 3 ABY, the Culroonians engaged in combat with the Empire during a campaign that unfolded on Culroon III following an uprising. Maximilian Veers, a human male, participated in the fighting on Culroon III as a member of the Imperial forces, and he was instrumental in securing victory for the Empire in that conflict. Veers's bravery, strategic thinking, and command skills displayed on Culroon III were key factors in his advancement to the rank of general within the Imperial Army. This promotion led to his assignment to Darth Vader's, the Sith Lord, Death Squadron. The planet Culroon III received mention within a profile dedicated to Veers in the Galactic Explorer's Guide, a work authored by the pirate Hondo Ohnaka together with his protocol droid, DK-RA-43, after the Battle of Starkiller Base in 34 ABY.
The first mention of Culroon III in canon occurred within The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want to Be a Jedi?, a children's book from 2015 by Adam Gidwitz that retells the events of the 1980 motion picture Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. The 2019 reference book Star Wars: The Galactic Explorer's Guide by Jason Fry officially identified it as Culroon.
Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, Culroon III was a planet that initially appeared in the short story titled "The Promotion of Lieutenant Veers." This story was included in The Star Wars Sourcebook, published back in 1987. Within the narrative, Culroon III served as the location for an ambush on Imperial forces, carried out by the indigenous Culroon inhabitants, ultimately leading to Maximilian Veers' advancement from the lieutenant position to the rank of major.
