Customs Enforcement Division

The Customs Enforcement Division served as a component of the Coruscant Security Force, with its primary responsibility being customs enforcement on the planet of Coruscant during the Cold War period. Police officers from the CSF were stationed as spaceport security and as customs enforcement agents, often receiving assistance from specialized customs droids.

A crisis involving hostages unfolded at Diplomatic Spaceport 27-B when a smuggler by the name of Teff'ith seized a CSF Customs guard and demanded communication with Jedi Grand Master Satele Shan. The partner of the guard taken hostage requested reinforcements, leading to more than twenty CSF officers arriving at the location. The situation came to an end when Grand Master Shan appeared, prompting Teff'ith to give herself up.

Description

The Coruscant Security Force included the Customs Enforcement Division, which was tasked with customs enforcement responsibilities across the planet of Coruscant. The division deployed police officers as security at spaceport facilities and as customs agents at various control points. To aid in identifying new arrivals, confirming their identities, and scrutinizing their ship manifests, customs droids were also deployed at checkpoints.

History

A Coruscant Security customs droid

In the era of the Cold War circa 3643 BBY, a period of tension between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, the Customs Enforcement Division intercepted the smuggler known as Voidhound at the Coruscant Spaceport. The Customs Droid on duty identified a discrepancy within the smuggler's identification protocols and cargo documentation. Just as the droid was about to request support from a customs enforcement agent, the smuggler bypassed the system by uploading fraudulent data. This data falsely identified the smuggler as Admiral Numinn, leading the customs droid to authorize the smuggler's entry into Coruscant.

In 3640 BBY, Agent Theron Shan of the Republic Strategic Information Service dispatched Teff'ith, a smuggler, to Coruscant. Her purpose was to relay crucial details about his mission to Supreme Commander Jace Malcom and Jedi Grand Master Satele Shan. As Teff'ith entered airspace over Coruscant, she received instructions from Coruscant Flight Control 473 to land at Diplomatic Spaceport 27-B. Upon arriving, Teff'ith was subjected to checks and searches by CSF guards. The guards found that Teff'ith's shoulder wound, sustained before her departure, and her non-Jedi status were inconsistent with her piloting a Jedi spacecraft. Despite Teff'ith's persistent requests to speak with Grand Master Shan, the guards escorted her to the spaceport office.

Growing impatient, Teff'ith seized the blaster pistol from one of the guards. The partner of the guard demanded that she drop the weapon and release the hostage, but she refused. Instead, she ordered him to leave the spaceport office. Initially hesitant, the guard complied at the insistence of his partner, who was being held hostage. Teff'ith then barricaded herself inside the office with the remaining guard. She demanded that he contact Shan, which he began to attempt. Meanwhile, his partner had requested assistance, and in a matter of five minutes, over twenty CSF officers had arrived, establishing a perimeter around the office. The guard inside managed to contact Shan, who agreed to come to the spaceport. Upon the Grand Master's arrival, Teff'ith surrendered and shared the critical information.
