History

For several decades, the DL-18 stood out as one of the galaxy's most commonly encountered blaster pistols. The fundamental design served as the basis for numerous subsequent BlasTech models, and the weapon demonstrated versatility across a range of operational contexts. Its primary competitor in the market was the Model 44 manufactured by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc.. Owners often customized their weapons. Various spacers employed them during the Galactic Civil War. Its low cost made the weapon virtually expendable.

Officers within the Alliance to Restore the Republic, including Bria Tharen, preferred the DL-18's lighter and more streamlined design when compared to heavier blaster pistols. During the Bakura Incident in 4 ABY, the Rebel Alliance officer Rannd Delckis carried this weapon. The Sith Shadows also favored its use. Due to its prevalence among the criminals found in the Tatooinian city of Mos Eisley, it gained the nickname "Mos Eisley Special." It was a common weapon amongst the guards employed by Jabba the Hutt. Longo Two-Guns, a gunslinger, wielded a pair of DL-18s. Following the Battle of Yavin, Jabba the Hutt's supervisor droid EV-9D9 awarded a DL-18 to a spacer who launched an attack on the Valarian Depot located on Tatooine. Additionally, Sergeant Snopel presented a DL-18 to a commando who successfully defeated the Mountain Poachers operating on Naboo. The D-18 Liquidator was a variant of this weapon, and Lieutenant Joth of the Corellian Security Force once offered it to a spacer as a reward for the successful shutdown of Doctor Maldien's illegal lab on Corellia. A spacer later collected a D-18 Liquidator on Vreni Island.
Behind the scenes
Both The Rebel Alliance Sourcebook and the Arms & Equipment Guide contain inaccurate depictions of the DL-18. The correct visual representation, sometimes informally called a "Skiff guard pistol," is clearly visible in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.
