Illegal Lab (Corellia)

During the Galactic Civil War era, a clandestine laboratory operating outside the law could be found on Corellia, set during the time.

History

This laboratory was situated on an island just off the southern coastline of the Core World of Corellia, in proximity to the Suntir Plains and the Riverlands. Following the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, the facility was up and running, specializing in the bio-engineering of various creatures. The genetic experimentation that took place within its walls was not only against the law but also incredibly hazardous. As an example, scientists were combining the DNA of aggressive creatures with that of more docile members of the same genus, with the goal of creating powerful and intelligent combat animals. Among the engineered creatures were durnis, gaping spiders, bark mites, klikniks, tusk cats, boar-wolves, and acklays. The Chief Scientist of the lab was Doctor Maldien, while Jenson held the position of lead beast master. The lab also housed three administrative heads, namely Rond Fenimer, Pirt Rawklin, and Benn Calder. Borgan, a Whiphid, once sought the Security Director position at the lab but was ultimately rejected.

The illicit activities occurring within the lab's walls were eventually brought to light after an informant, known as Ja'inn, shared rumors of "dangerous things coming" with CorSec Lieutenant Joth in 1 ABY. Lieutenant Joth then assigned a spacer to investigate these rumors. The spacer discovered from Ja'inn that one of her acquaintances, the Bothan smuggler Moril, became frightened after delivering some unusual items to a group he couldn't identify. Upon interrogation by the spacer, Moril admitted that he had been hired to transport animal feed, chemicals, and tranquilizer supplies to the lab, and what he witnessed there deeply disturbed him. Consequently, Lieutenant Joth instructed the spacer to proceed to the drop-off location for Moril's shipment and investigate the area. Upon reaching the lab, the spacer's initial action was to engage and defeat security officers to obtain the necessary passwords for accessing administrative terminals. The spacer also eliminated the three administrative heads, Rond Fenimer, Pirt Rawklin, and Benn Calder, to acquire their respective passwords. This enabled Lieutenant Joth to confirm the building's identity as a clandestine illegal lab. Joth then tasked the spacer with dismantling its operations. On the lab's first level, the spacer encountered Jeridel, who expressed concern over her missing brother, the beast master Jenson. Subsequently, the spacer ventured into the lab's second level, where they engaged in combat with guards and researchers, disabled the security system's control, and downloaded research notes. Furthermore, the spacer eliminated Doctor Maldien. However, Lieutenant Joth, concerned about the engineered beasts, instructed the spacer to neutralize them. In response, the spacer released a tranquilizer gas to subdue the animals. In the lab's lower level, the spacer confronted the remaining aggressive beasts, ultimately managing to eliminate them all. The spacer also gathered blood samples from the engineered creatures for Stregand, who represented a rival laboratory. Eventually, the spacer discovered the body of Jeridel's brother, Jenson, who had been killed by his own creations. Finally, the spacer overloaded the lab's central computer, effectively destroying all the accumulated research data.

Behind the scenes

The Corellian illegal laboratory was featured as a location in the 2003 massively multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars Galaxies, prior to the game's shutdown on December 15, 2011. The illegal lab was incorporated into the game with the release of "Publish 28," on April 26, 2006.
