Dead Moon of Antar

The Dead Moon of Antar was a celestial body classified as a moon, and it once orbited the planet known as Antar. Antar itself was situated within the Prindaar system, a part of the Inner Rim and the Slice regions of the galaxy. Its location was along the Nanth'ri Trade Route, specifically positioned between the worlds of Lonera and Gyndine, and it was cataloged as being within grid square N-12 of the Standard Galactic Grid.

During the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, the Jedi General Anakin Skywalker boarded the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser called Malevolence. He then proceeded to sabotage its navigation computer, effectively setting the massive warship on a direct path to collide with the dead moon. The Separatist crew, composed of B1-series battle droids and unaware of the alterations made by Skywalker, engaged the starship's hyperdrive. This action resulted in the complete destruction of the Malevolence and its entire droid complement when the vessel smashed into the Dead Moon of Antar at lightspeed.

Behind the scenes

The Dead Moon of Antar made its debut, although without specific identification at the time, in "Destroy Malevolence," which was the fourth episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' first season. This episode, part of the canon animated series, was originally broadcast on October 17, 2008. An indirect reference to it first appeared in Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races, a Star Wars Legends sourcebook for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game authored by Troy Denning in 1989. The explicit identification of the celestial body as a "dead moon of Antar" occurred in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, a reference work that was released on December 9, 2008. Although capitalized, this designation became officially recognized as canon with its inclusion in Ultimate Star Wars, a 2015 reference book authored by Patricia Barr, Adam Bray, Daniel Wallace, and Ryder Windham.
