The Deadeyes were a squad of snipers within the Republic Army, notable for their participation against the reconstituted Sith Empire during the period known as the Cold War. Aric Jorgan commanded the unit until his reassignment to Ord Mantell, at which point Torve, previously his second-in-command, took over leadership.
Composed of highly skilled marksmen, the squad specialized in "decapitation strikes." This tactic involved the Deadeye snipers taking out enemy officers before Republic forces launched their attacks, thereby aiming to leave the enemy forces without leadership and in disarray. In some cases, Deadeyes would maintain a position outside enemy installations for weeks while awaiting a clear shot to present itself.
During his time with the Deadeyes, Jorgan is credited with more than a dozen confirmed kills.
Following Jorgan's departure, the entire unit was captured by Imperial forces during a standard operation inside neutral Hutt territory located on Nar Shaddaa. This capture was part of a larger infiltration scheme orchestrated by SIS Senior Agent Zane, whose objective was to evaluate the Imperial penal system in order to discover the location of Dusk 9, a secret Imperial black ops prison and research facility, though he misled them by saying they were going to rescue POWs. However, the Deadeyes did not anticipate that the Imperials would separate them during transport to various off-world locations for forced labor.
Meteor, taking a personal interest in the situation, collaborated with Jorgan and Republic Strategic Information Service Agent Jonas Balkar to locate the missing squad. Zane cautioned Havoc against intervening in his operation, fearing it could compromise his plans. Nevertheless, Havoc Squad commenced their search for the Deadeyes, using information obtained from Imperial databanks. Their search led them to Torve on Tatooine first, and then to the rest of the unit on Hoth, although two members, Trace and Koplin, tragically succumbed to the planet's extreme cold.
