Demms Ryx, a Volpai of the male persuasion, earned his living as a bartender at the renowned The End of the World cantina, situated on Koda Station. It was approximately 1 ABY when he first crossed paths with Arvel Crynyd, a flight instructor. During this initial encounter, Ryx offered solace to Crynyd, who was grieving the death of Raf, a former student of his. Eventually, Ryx departed Koda Station, seeking out an abandoned spacedock to align himself with Crynyd within the ranks of the Rebel Alliance. Serving the Alliance as a chef, the Volpai also underwent training to pilot an RZ-1T A-wing. He was stationed at the Alliance's Echo Base on the planet Hoth, providing culinary services to rebel pilots on an unnamed asteroid following the base's fall in 3 ABY. Over time, Ryx and Crynyd's relationship blossomed into romance, and they became parents to a daughter named Starr. By 4 ABY, the family had established a residence on the planet Cerea, a haven far removed from the fighting.

Amidst the Rebel Alliance's war against the Galactic Empire, Demms Ryx worked as a bartender within the walls of The End of the World tavern on Koda Station. Around 1 ABY, Ryx took notice of Arvel Crynyd, a flight instructor for the Rebel Alliance, as he abruptly exited the establishment after receiving news of the death of one of his former students, Raf. Moved by concern, Ryx followed him outside. The blue hue of Ryx's blue skin, illuminated by the tavern's light, prompted Crynyd to remark that he resembled hyperspace personified. Ryx chuckled before extending his hand, drawing Crynyd closer, and offering him a drink.
Ryx politely dismissed Dagger, the woman who had delivered the news of Raf's passing to Crynyd. Subsequently, he arranged for someone to cover his shift so that he could sit near Crynyd and engage in conversation, inquiring about hyperspace. As Crynyd elucidated the concept of hyperspace's impossibility and how it made those that willingly harmed each other hard to understand, Ryx suggested that such sentiments could be interpreted as rebellious. Crynyd insisted that he was merely an instructor, not a rebel, and prepared to leave. Ryx placed his hand on Crynyd's shoulder, urging him to stay, and piqued his interest by inquiring about his deceased student.
Ryx conveyed his condolences to Crynyd, affirming that his teaching of Raf held significance and that teaching, in itself, was an act of believing in the possibility of improvement. Crynyd countered that he held no beliefs, but Ryx remained skeptical. When Crynyd pointed out that Ryx, too, exhibited rebellious tendencies, the bartender embraced the label, earning Crynyd's admiration for his self-assuredness. Although this made Ryx uneasy, he joked about being hyperspace personified, to which Crynyd responded that he could see stars in his eyes. The Volpai advised him to follow the stars but to return to him whenever he needed to talk. Ryx awaited Crynyd's return, greeting him with a smile and a drink upon his eventual arrival. The act of meeting for drinks and offering each other comfort became a regular occurrence until Crynyd departed for an abandoned spacedock where rebel pilots were trained.
Ryx eventually managed to get a ride to the spacedock, carrying only a bag. There, he found Crynyd, who knew Ryx had many questions. Ryx explained that he wanted to forge his own path, not necessarily as a pilot, but by making a meaningful contribution to both the cause and to Crynyd himself. Crynyd assured Ryx that his presence was welcome and mentioned that they were in need of a chef, jokingly adding that the constant consumption of polystarch ration packs made him want to jump out of an airlock. Ryx accepted the position, stating that he couldn't lose Crynyd after just finding him.

In time, Crynyd taught Ryx how to pilot an RZ-1T A-wing starfighter, though Crynyd eventually took the pilot's seat to show Ryx hyperspace. As time went on, they continued to find solace and comfort in each other's company. They were together at the Alliance's Echo Base on Hoth, and they reunited after the base fell in 3 ABY. Following that, they remained together on an unnamed asteroid, where Ryx prepared meals for rebels while Crynyd conducted supply missions and trained pilots. Their love for each other deepened, and they eventually welcomed a daughter named Starr. Together, they established a home on the planet Cerea, far from the rebel fleet.
Three days before the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Crynyd visited Ryx and Starr on Cerea. Starr expressed her curiosity about ash angels, prompted by Ryx's explanation that they were the only featherless birds in existence. Ryx elaborated that the birds' impossibility made them miraculous and worth cherishing, all while gazing into Crynyd's eyes. Three days later, Crynyd met his end in the Battle of Endor.
Demms Ryx, a Volpai male, possessed four arms, blue skin, and distinctive stripes adorning his face and arms. Arvel Crynyd likened Ryx to hyperspace brought to life and considered him to be both headstrong and rebellious. Ryx was known for his thoughtfulness and compassion and held a deep belief in the transformative power of teaching. Although he identified as a rebel, his desire to contribute more and to be significant to both the Alliance's cause and to Crynyd led him to formally join the Alliance. Ryx consistently offered comfort and support to Crynyd, going to great lengths to be with him, ultimately leading them to find love and build a home together. Ryx firmly believed that elements of life that seemed impossible were worth cherishing and made the galaxy miraculous.
Ryx was a proficient cook and a skilled bartender. Crynyd held the opinion that Ryx prepared the finest rations in the rebel fleet and once instructed Ryx in the art of flying an RZ-1T A-wing.
Demms Ryx made appearances in flashbacks within the short story "The Impossible Flight of Ash Angels," penned by Marieke Nijkamp and released in 2023 as part of the anthology From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi. Nijkamp verified that Ryx was male.
