Di'kut

Di'kut, a Human male and clone created from the genetic material of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett, fought as a clone commando in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. Sporting green markings on his Katarn-class commando armor and known for his sarcastic wit, Di'kut served alongside Aiwha Squad in the latter stages of the Clone Wars, working with fellow commandos Zag, Tyto, and Sergeant Sarge. In 19 BBY, Di'kut and his Aiwha squadmates participated in the Battle of Garqi, where they were assigned to locate civilian refugees after a Republic bombing operation. Upon finding a child named Evan, the four clones escorted him to a nearby refugee camp managed by Jedi General Traavis. While at the camp, the squad received Order 66 from Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, causing Di'kut and his clone brothers to open fire on their former Jedi commander, killing Traavis.

Biography

Di'kut was the given designation to a Human male clone of Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett. He was created on the aquatic planet of Kamino, which is situated in the galaxy's Wild Space region, for the purpose of serving as a clone commando within the Grand Army of the Republic. Sometime during his life, he either adopted or was given the moniker "Di'kut," a Mandalorian term that translates to "idiot" in Mando'a. As the Clone Wars erupted between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Di'kut left Kamino and began active duty in the Grand Army's Special Operations Brigade, under the leadership of Jedi General Arligan Zey.

By the third year of the Clone Wars conflict, Di'kut was a member of Aiwha Squad, a special forces squad of clone commandos that also featured the commandos Zag and Tyto, and was led by Sergeant Sarge. Towards the end of the war, Di'kut and his clone comrades were deployed to the Outer Rim agriworld of Garqi. Following a Republic bombing campaign targeting Separatist forces, Aiwha Squad was tasked with finding any survivors. While investigating a heavily damaged farmhouse, Di'kut and his team encountered a young child named Evan. With his parents having been killed, the commandos took responsibility for escorting the boy to the nearby refugee camp. However, Evan was hesitant to go with the clones and attempted to escape, running back towards his destroyed home and accidentally stumbling upon an OG-9 homing spider droid. Di'kut and the other commandos engaged the spider droid, destroying it and saving Evan, earning his gratitude. Although Di'kut had quickly moved to protect the boy, once Evan was safe, he made a sarcastic comment that he would let the droids kill him if he tried to run away again.

Later that night, the clones and Evan made camp in the Garqian wilderness, and Di'kut sat with his brothers around a fire as Sarge explained the life of a clone trooper to Evan. The next morning, Aiwha Squad arrived at the refugee camp, which was under the supervision of Jedi General Traavis. The Jedi Master congratulated Di'kut and his squadmates for their efforts, and informed them about the death of General Grievous—the Supreme Commander of the Separatist Droid Army—at the hands of Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, the meeting took a dark turn with the issuing of Order 66, one of the one hundred and fifty contingency orders for the Grand Army. This order declared the Jedi as traitors to the Republic and marked them for immediate execution. Having received the order directly from Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, Sarge commanded the squad to open fire on General Traavis. Di'kut and his squadmates complied, shooting and killing the Jedi General in accordance with the Chancellor's order.

Personality and traits

Di'kut was known for his sarcastic sense of humor. This humor sometimes manifested as lighthearted joking, but could also become sharp cynicism when he was frustrated. His unusual sense of humor was likely the reason for his nickname: di'kut was a Mandalorian curse word similar to "moron," literally meaning "someone who forgets to put their pants on" in Mando'a. Di'kut preferred using the anti-armor grenade launcher attachment for his DC-17 blaster rifle during combat, and carried extra ordnance for the weapon on his utility belt. He also had a fondness for the color green, and customized his Katarn-class commando armor with green markings.

Behind the scenes

Di'kut's first appearance was in the 2005 comic story titled Orders, which was part of the Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures Volume 4 of the Clone Wars Adventures comic series. The story was written by Ryan Kaufman, and the artwork for Di'kut was created by the Fillbach brothers, Matthew and Shawn. Later, in 2008, he was included in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.
