Sarge (clone commando)

Sarge, also known as RC-1013, held the rank of sergeant as a clone commando within the ranks of the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. He was among the survivors of the conflict's initial engagement on the planet of Geonosis in 22 BBY. During the Clone Wars, he, along with the other three members of his commando unit and another clone commando team, was assigned to a mission on Ord Mantell. Their objective was to recover a diplomatic package that had been pilfered, which was originally intended for Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and had been taken from diplomats originating from the world of Malastare.

Sarge was successful in his retrieval of the package, wresting it from a group of Trandoshan bounty hunters. However, this success came at a cost, as all other members of both commando squads perished in the process. Later, he became a member of Aiwha Squad, a clone commando squad that included Zag, Tyto, and Di'kut. He and his fellow squad members operated under the command of Jedi General [Traavis],(/article/traavis) participating in the Galactic Republic's sieges of Separatist-held territories located in the Outer Rim.

During a military campaign that took place on Garqi, Sarge and the rest of Aiwha Squad were tasked with escorting a young boy named Evan to a refugee camp situated on Garqi. After reporting their success to Traavis, Sarge received a directive from Chancellor Palpatine to execute Order 66, which branded all Jedi Knights as enemies of the Republic. Sarge immediately relayed the order to Aiwha Squad, instructing them to turn against Traavis, which resulted in the immediate termination of the Jedi.

Biography

Early life and training

Sarge, designated as RC-1013 at birth, was a Human male who was born on the aquatic world of Kamino. He was a clone derived from the genetic blueprint of Jango Fett, the Mandalorian bounty hunter. He underwent rigorous training to become a clone commando, ultimately achieving the rank of sergeant. Sarge participated in the opening conflict of the Clone Wars on the planet Geonosis in 22 BBY, where the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic engaged the Droid Army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

During the intense combat, Sarge was the sole soldier from his unit to survive. Subsequently, along with other commando units, he became part of the Special Operations Brigade, a special forces division within the Grand Army comprising clone commandos and Advanced Recon Commandos. Eventually, the Sergeant was placed in command of his own squad of clone commandos.

The Package

Sarge takes vengeance for his squad's deaths.

Six months following the Battle of Geonosis, Sarge and his unit were assigned by an ARC intelligence officer to a mission on Ord Mantell with the objective of recovering a diplomatic package that had been stolen. This package was a gift from diplomats hailing from Malastare to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Sarge and his squad collaborated with a squad of commandos distinguished by their blue armor in an effort to secure the stolen package from Trandoshan mercenaries who had taken possession of it. Sarge's team established a position atop a building in the city where the mercenaries were located, while the other squad set up an ambush at street level. When the package was spotted in the Trandoshans' second landspeeder, the ground squad attempted to seize it, but they were swiftly killed, allowing the landspeeder with the diplomatic gift to escape.

Sarge and his squad pursued the mercenaries' speeder into the industrial areas of the city. Upon entering a building, the commandos eliminated a group of B1-Series battle droids, resulting in the loss of one of their own. Sarge and the remaining two commandos continued fighting until they secured the room, which led to another team member's death. The Trandoshan who possessed the diplomatic gift surprised Sarge by shooting and killing the last remaining member of the Sergeant's squad. Sarge then launched himself at the mercenary, overpowering him and killing him with his knuckle plate vibro blade, successfully recovering the package. He delivered the package to his superiors, who then passed it on to Palpatine and his advisor, Vice Chair Mas Amedda.

Further missions and Order 66

Sarge took part in a space battle in the Celestial Wake, situated in the Kriz sector of the Outer Rim Territories. He survived the engagement and was later assigned to lead Aiwha Squad, a commando unit consisting of himself, Zag, Tyto, and Di'kut. In 19 BBY, Sarge and his squad were placed under the command of Jedi General Traavis. Under the Jedi Master's leadership, they contributed to the liberation of the planet Garqi from Separatist forces. Following the battle, Traavis instructed Sarge and Aiwha Squad to search for civilians and escort them to a local refugee camp.

Sarge commands Aiwha Squad to execute Jedi General Traavis.

During Aiwha Squad's search, Sarge and his unit encountered a young boy named Evan, whose parents had been killed when Republic forces bombed their home in an attempt to destroy battle droids. The Sergeant instructed the boy to accompany them back to the refugee camp, which was located twenty kilometers away. During the journey, Evan managed to escape from the squad but was ambushed by an OG-9 homing spider droid. As the droid threatened Evan, Sarge diverted its attention, ambushing and destroying it with his squad. The Sergeant checked on Evan's condition and decided to set up camp for the night. As they sat around the campfire with Evan, he introduced the other members of the squad and explained their role as clone soldiers.

The following morning, Sarge and his unit proceeded to the refugee camp with Evan and reported their success to Traavis, who congratulated them and informed them that General Grievous, the Supreme Commander of the Droid Armies, had recently been killed. Sarge then spoke with Evan, advising him to be cautious and always obey his superiors. After this conversation, Sarge received Order 66 from Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, which ordered clone soldiers to eliminate the Jedi Knights, labeling them as enemies of the Republic. Sarge immediately ordered Aiwha Squad to execute the order, and they turned their weapons on Traavis, killing the Jedi. Sarge explained to Evan, who witnessed Traavis' execution, that the Jedi were now enemies of the Republic, reiterating his belief in obeying orders. Subsequently, Sarge filed a report detailing Traavis' execution shortly after Palpatine declared himself Emperor of the first Galactic Empire. The official records, which were altered by Imperial Advisor Sate Pestage from a collection of various reports compiled by Moff Marcellin Wessel, stated that Traavis was killed while attempting to steal children to indoctrinate them in the ways of the Jedi.

Personality and traits

Being a clone of Jango Fett, Sarge possessed tan skin, a patch of brown hair, and brown eyes. His height was 1.83 meters. He was known for his diligence in following the orders of his superiors, never questioning them, regardless of his personal feelings. Sarge considered his fellow clones as his brothers, demonstrating his commitment to those under his command. During the mission to Ord Mantell, he killed the last Trandoshan mercenary as an act of revenge for his fallen squadmates. While escorting Evan to the refugee camp on Garqi, Sarge occasionally became frustrated with the boy's stubborn refusal to accept assistance, but he later shared his background with Evan and offered advice for survival in the galaxy. When Order 66 was issued, Sarge followed the command without hesitation and made sure to explain to Evan the reasons behind his squad's execution of Traavis.

Equipment

During the opening battle of the Clone Wars on Geonosis, Sarge was equipped with Phase I clone trooper armor. Throughout the remainder of the war, he wore Katarn-class commando armor with red markings. Sarge utilized a DC-17m Interchangeable Weapon System during his missions, and he also carried knuckle plate vibro blades.
