Dragonsnake

The dragonsnake (also written as dragon snake) was a sizable, carnivorous reptilian species that inhabited the boggy aquatic environments of certain worlds, notably Dagobah and Nal Hutta. During the period of the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master, encountered a dragonsnake during his search for Ziro the Hutt on Nal Hutta. Some years afterward, Luke Skywalker experienced a crash landing on Dagobah, where a dragonsnake nearly devoured his astromech droid, R2-D2.

Biology and appearance

These dragonsnakes, dwelling in the murky waters of planets saturated with swamps, such as Dagobah and Nal Hutta, were massive, serpentine creatures equipped with razor-sharp teeth. Despite their ravenous appetites, they lacked the ability to digest metallic substances. The dragonsnake known as "Bright-Eyes" demonstrated a level of sentience.

Behavior

Dragonsnakes were predatory beings, sustaining themselves by consuming the flesh of other lifeforms. In their hunting strategies, they would conceal themselves beneath the muddy waters and among the roots of gnarltrees, patiently awaiting the approach of their next meal. Upon seizing their prey, a dragonsnake would swiftly submerge back into the water. They stood among the most formidable reptiles and were deemed impossible to tame.

History

Sometime during the widespread galactic conflict referred to as the Clone Wars, Jedi Masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Quinlan Vos endeavored to locate Ziro the Hutt on Nal Hutta. During this undertaking, Kenobi was set upon by a dragonsnake native to the planet. The beast met its death when the Jedi Master plunged his activated lightsaber into the dragonsnake's head.

In the year 20 BBY, the head of a dragonsnake was displayed as a prize on a Ubrikkian Floating Fortess by Trandoshan hunters situated on the moon called Wasskah.

During 3 ABY, Luke Skywalker, an aspiring Jedi, inadvertently crashed his X-wing starfighter within a watery peat bog on Dagobah. A dragonsnake concealed within the bog seized Skywalker's astromech droid, R2-D2, and attempted to consume it. However, the dragonsnake discovered R2 to be indigestible and subsequently expelled him. This event was also observed by another dragonsnake, known as "Bright-Eyes."

Behind the scenes

This reptilian entity initially appeared in the 1980 motion picture, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. However, its designation as "Dragonsnake" was first established in an episode guide for "Hunt for Ziro" from the animated television program, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Originally, dragonsnakes were intended to be featured in the Star Wars video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order set on Dagobah, but this inclusion was ultimately omitted from the final version.
