Video game
The Jedi Knight series of video games introduced Kyle Katarn, a Jedi Master, and his apprentice, Jaden Korr. The term "video game" refers to any interactive game software played on a video-game system or computer, where the primary feedback comes from a video display. ## Video Game Genres - First-person shooter (FPS) games are computer or video games where the player sees the game from the character's point of view. These games commonly involve guns and other weapons for combat. Examples include Star Wars: Dark Forces and its sequels, along with Star Wars: Republic Commando. For more examples, see Category:First-person shooters. - Flight simulators are games where players control an aircraft or spacecraft, battling opponents or navigating obstacles. The X-wing and TIE Fighter series, the Rogue Squadron series, the Starfighter series, and Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed all fall into this category. - Real-time strategy (RTS) games are typically computer games where the player oversees multiple characters from an overhead perspective. In these games, players usually command groups of characters without directly engaging in combat. Examples include Star Wars: Rebellion, Star Wars: Force Commander, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and Star Wars: Empire at War. - Role-playing games (RPGs) are computer or video games where the player views the character from a third-person perspective, making decisions that influence the game's narrative. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords are examples of RPGs. They share similarities with tabletop roleplaying games. - Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) are online games where many players control characters and interact with each other on a large scale. These games often feature diverse environments and numerous non-player characters (NPCs) to create a more immersive experience. Examples are Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. ## Star Wars Games Listed by Release Date ### 1980s #### 1982 - Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the first Star Wars video game, was developed by Parker Brothers and launched in 1982 for the Atari 2600 and Intellivision consoles.
