Dwarf bantha
The dwarf bantha was a small-sized species of bantha. Banthas are a type of omnivorous mammal that are native to the desert planet of Tatooine. These dwarf banthas made their homes in the canyons and cliffs found in the most remote desert regions. Ardis San Tekka, who held the position of Director of Creature Cartography at the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, included dwarf banthas in her entry about banthas within her journal sometime after the Battle of Exegol took place in 35 ABY.
Behind the scenes
In current Star Wars canon, the reference book Star Wars Bestiary, Vol. 1: Creatures of the Galaxy, penned by S.T. Bende in 2024, featured dwarf banthas. The species originally appeared in the Star Wars Legends continuity, initially mentioned within the Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide by Ben Burtt, released on August 7, 2001. Later, The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide, a reference book by Terryl Whitlatch and Bob Carrau with illustrations by Whitlatch, published in November 2001, included the first images of dwarf banthas. Subsequently, the 2003 massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars Galaxies, created by Sony Online Entertainment, featured the species for the first time in a video game.
